Hi there! I am planning our first trip to Disney the first week of April, 2011. My son, who will be 7 at the time of the trip, loves SpongeBob and has been hounding us to take him to the Nickelodeon Hotel. I thought we might spend one night there before WDW. I know this resort is mainly an outdoor water park theme. Will it be too chilly the first week of April to go there? If you have been there, tell me your experience!!
THANKS!

In a nutshell: The weather will be fine. Kids love the resort, parents hate it.

My opinion: Since this is your first trip to Disney, I would just focus on that. Take the money you would spend at the Nick hotel and use it on a longer Disney stay. There is so much to do there and the cost of park admission drops the longer you stay.

For your next trip to Orlando in 2012, you can do Universal/Seaworld and the Nick Hotel.

I would look long and hard at the reviews. They seem to have gotten worse over the past few years. We too have one who loves SbSp, but given the horrible reviews, we decided against even staying there one night.

We've been for 1 or 2 day stay and the kids dig it.

IMO those trip adviser complaints come from the kind of people who have a permanent look of smelling something bad on their face.

If you go to the Nick expecting 4 star accommodations you'll be sadly disappointed. If you want to sit around an awesome pool, pay too much for a few cocktails and watch your kid have a ball, you should go.

Every kid I've ever asked who has been there gave it 2 thumbs up.

1 nite is all i would do..or could stand...look really hard for a deal...call the hotel not the 1800 # dont pay alot not worth it the big water area was closed when we went and they just swam in the reg pool (not clean) ds got sick....good luck

We were there in Late March last year and the water was heated wonderfully - it was better than summer time because of the rain storms that cool off the water since they don't heat the water in the summer at all. Wewanted to go in the pool so badly but my DS has fractured his arm and had surgery the week before and we all stayed out of the pool so he wouldn't feel bad. Tough for us, he accepted it ok because we told him we would go back.

We just did a trip to Nick in June, and I seriously have to say it's not a bad place, if you go there expecting Disney Deluxe hotel you will be disappointed. And I have to say, we always stay Disney Deluxe, so I was probably more apprehensive than a lot of people, I read every review I could find, talked to anyone who went there, and almost changed the reservation at the last minute for fear it would be substandard, but I have to say, the room was clean, and decent, the hotel itself is colorful and the kids love it. The water slides were awesome (my GS4 loved them), and the pool area was clean, didn't have anything negative to say about it. Was the room fantastic? no, was it like the Grandfloridian? no, but it was decent and worth the $, have to say the character buffet was WAAAAY better than Chef Mickeys, waaaaaay more character interaction, better food, and waaaaay less $$. They even had an omlette station, haha, chef mickeys should have that for what they charge.

I would strong recommend staying there for the one night. We booked on Travelocity and got a great price and even got one night free. Feel free to ask me anything, I'm honest, I will tell you the truth about it.
