"Nicest" Walking Distance Hotel?

I've been doing some reading research and was trying to find the "nicest" hotel within Disneyland walking distance that is not the Disneyland or Grand Californian (due to their outrageous prices). All of the hotels I've looked at on the map look a bit, well, grotty.

I'm kind of a picky princess about where I stay (sorry), especially when I'm all alone with son. It doesn't need to be super fancy, Ritz Carlton level, but I'm wanting generally downtown-big-city "nice."

Thoughts?

If you haven't already, check out Trip Advisor. It will give you a very wide range of opinions on all amenities (including the walk to the park).

We just got back and stayed at the Best Western Park Place Inn. I'd classify this as a motel. It was decent and the kids enjoyed it. I've stayed in worse. What I dislike most about these types of 'motels' is the outside entry. It's noisy and less secure.

You'll find a lot of great reviews on Trip Advisor to help you choose. Good luck!

Maybe try the Paradise Pier Hotel. Or the Hilton, which is a longer walk, maybe not "walking distance" now that the parking lot tram option is no longer available.

How do the DLH and GCH prices compare with Poly and the other WDW resorts?

The hotels a step up in quality and popularity around here would be HoJo's and Candy Cane Inn.

Yeah, that's one problem with DLR is that the nicer hotels (for me that would be hyatt, hilton, doubletree, embassy suites, etc) aren't within walking distance.

I personally think the nicest hotel within walking distance is the Candy Cane Inn. It's still really just a 2 story motel with outside doors but they've done a really nice job of making it look nice. They have nice landscaping and the driveway/parking lot is all made of pavers instead of cement. They also have a nice fountain out front. The rooms have plantation shutters instead of curtains which i think makes it look nice. They also have a free shuttle (even though it's an easy walk) and a free breakfast. The breakfast doesn't have any hot items but it's actually really nice for that type of breakfast. The last time we were there they even had about 4 different flavors of cream cheese for the bagels.

Embassy Suites has a shuttle that takes you right to the DLR front entrance.

We got a super discount for the Grand Floridian in January then cruised through the Panama Canal and ended up at the Grand Californian. (we were celebrating milestone birthdays and splurged.) Even tho the Grand Flo was discounted, the Grand Californian was much cheaper.

Depends on you definition of "nice". I do not think the places across the street are nice but for many very doable. The Marriott and Hilton are nice but not as nice as the DLH or GCH. Nice is a term like "worth it". What may be to one is not to another.

Walkable, but not "across the street" is where we like best: Hilton and the Marriott (in that order). So much nicer than the hotels (really motels) closer to the pedestrian entrance. And the Hilton is adding a kid-play area to their pool. Maybe check it out!

I'm a picky princess too, and I love HoJos! We get the premium Disney-view rooms, which are spacious, sparkling clean and have all the amenities you need. it's about a 7 minute walk to Disneyland.

For a NICE hotel, I really like Embassy Suites South. I've always like ES when I've stayed there at other places. This one has a lion in the lobby. :)
Large two room suites, fridge, microwave, two tvs, and a fully cooked to order free breakfast. You can see the link in my sig for pics. We walked it one day we were off from the parks, but I don't recommend that on a park day.
We drove over to the parks in our own car because I swore off busses and shuttles. I wish I could pick it up and move it closer to DLR, but since I can't, we decided really like CCI (also a link in my sig). We like that we can leave later and get there quicker.

I've stayed several times at the Fairfield on Harbor (across the street from DL) and also Paradise Pier. If you can, the Pier has a back gate into DCA and is close enough to GC to catch a meal or drink there or two. I think Candy Cane is also ok. My friends have stayed there but I haven't yet.

I don't blame you for wanting interior corridors, I feel the same. For the nicest off property hotels, you will have to travel down Harbor Blvd. into Garden Grove, still only a mileish from the park though. For this reason, we choose Homewood Suites and Residence Inn. You'd probably prefer Homewood, since it is renovated. I'm nor sure if the Clementine Residence Inn has been recently renovated or not. The nicest though is probably Hyatt if you ask me. They are newly renovated also and they have their own shuttle, as does Homewood.

We prefer to take a shuttle to DLR in trade for nicer accommodations and the complementary hot breakfast doesn't hurt either. We do like the food at Hyatt when we were ther, it's a bit more upscale with steel cut oatmeal, organic milk for the kids.

The Sheraton Park is nice, but just pushing that "walk to the park" aspect. Maybe 15 minutes, depending on the the ages with you.

Our family likes the Candy Cane. Always spotless and the staff is wonderful.

There is no back gate into DCA anymore, you must walk thru the GCH and thru DTD for the shortest route.

We love Hojo's, go with a premium room if you want the "nicest" My brother stayed at Embassy Suites and said it was super nice but definitely not within walking distance (he walked one day and walked back to get the car and come pick up his wife lol) from then on he drove.

We stayed in Doubletree and thought the price was excellent for a two room suite! IMHO if you are staying with kids the separation of rooms is necessary. The beds are heavenly.

I know this hotel isn't 'listed' as a walkable hotel to Disney but we found it very manageable in 20 mins (with a 5 yr old). We did have the option of using the shuttle as well but only used it once.

We liked the setup of the room, it's quiet and the concierge is very helpful.

In the restaurant, the deal we had was the kids ate free and for the 3 of us our breakfast wasn't too much over $20.

If I have the choice of a 'nice' room or a 2 minute walk to Disney, I would choose the room.

Good luck!

As far as full service hotels in the area go, I have stayed at both the Marriott and the Hilton. While I am personally partial to Marriott hotels, the property was a little older and it showed somewhat. The rooms were nice but nothing out of the ordinary for a standard Marriott.

The Hilton had been renovated recently and the rooms were very nice. Modern with nice beds and furniture and nice common areas. While I like them both, my vote would have to go with the Hilton in the end.

I actually have walked from both of these hotels multiple times. It's always been just adults so we didn't have any kids to worry about, but it's never taken more than 15 minutes door to gate walking at a decent pace. You can walk right out of the and up Harbor from the hotels and it won't take too long.

I travel a lot for work, so I am kind of a hotel snob (or so people tell me) and I found both of these hotels to be up to par on a nicer hotel. Another nice perk to the Marriott, they had a rate for $219/night, free parking and each paid night included a $100 disney gift card, can't really beat that!

Another vote for the HoJo. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms were spacious, beds dreamy, awesome water play area for the kids, nice pool, lots of ammenities, small gift shop/store, nice staff & easy walk to the parks.

The only thing they don't offer is a breakfast, but Mimi's is next door with McDonald's, Denny's & IHOP all on Harbor Blvd across from the park.
