What are your opinions on the nicest (non-Disney) hotel within walking distance? There are so many hotels, but what is the nicest as far as pool, atmosphere, rooms etc.? Stayed at Disneyland Hotel in March, and with the refurb., won't be staying there again until it's done. Our room was way overdo for the refurb, and it wasn't cheap!

The top 2 offsite hotels for DL are HOJO'S and the Candy Cane Inn. I haven't stayed at the CCI, but have heard alot of good reviews about it, and it was a toss up between the hotels when I went to DL in Feb/09, and loved HOJO's. HOJO'S is a 7 to 10 min walk to DL. Their grounds and the entire hotel really are kept immaculate. Staff are always friendly and will to help with any questions or problems you may have. Mimi's is next door, and their food is excellent. Am staying there for my solo trip in Oct, and while I'm down there, will be booking them for our family trip in Feb/11. The kids loved the pirate play area, and can't wait to go back. Of the 2 hotels, HOJO's has the better pool, but you can't go wrong with either hotel. I should mention that HOJO'S gives a 15% discount for DIS members, and that it's best to contact them directly and ask for in-house reservations. Hope that this helps you out.

HOJO for proximity and pool.
Fairfield Inn is nice but the pool is lacking.
Haven't stayed at CCI but it looks beautiful.

The 5 for 3 deal has kept us onsite the last two years. Smart move on Disney's part. I'm surprised they don't do a free dining promotion.

I forgot to mention, we like interior hallways, and a balcony. I know that narrows it down a bit.

Hojo has interior hallways and a balcony - well at least the premium and deluxe rooms do, I have never stayed in a standard room there.

We enjoyed our stay at HOJO very much. It is a nice hotel with interior hallways and balconies are available (we had one with a good view of the park/monorail)

Another vote for HOJO too, castaway cove is great, landscape is great and the variety of different rooms to choose is good.

we have never had a chance to enjoy the pool area there.. Maybe we should change the time of year we go.. hmmm

Since you like a proper hotel, vs a "motor hotel" aka a motel, then HoJo is your closest bet. Most of the rest along Harbor are motels.

I would recommend the Hilton Anaheim, it is very nice, great pool, it is walking distance but i would recommend getting a ART bus pass for convinence. I always stay there. if you go on the website you can see there newly renovated rooms. Although if you are looking at websites dont let the picture of the pool at the Marriott fool you, it looks really really cool, but the whole pool is only 3 feet deep alll the way around, plus when we stayed there(only cause hilton was booked) the floor was dirty and there was a booger on the wall(nasty). I always recommend the Hilton to everyone that is traveling to disneyland and wants a nice hotel but non-disney. You will love it.

I have stayed at both the CCI and the HOJO. The CCI is nice enough, but the rooms are tiny, and it does feel very motel like with the cars outside the rooms. At HOJO, you are walking across very lovely landscaped grounds to your building with interior corridors. The rooms at HOJO are super big, like I almost feel sort of like I am getting away with something really great because the value is so awesome. We also love the garden pool at HOJO, which is pretty nice sized and incredibly peaceful. My youngest, and most of the younger kids do love pirate's cove at HOJO also. And I will also vouch for how comfy the beds are at HOJO, although I don't remember the bed being bad at CCI, but dang those rooms were tiny!
