Nice restaurants in Sarasota Fl

I wanted to give a GC to a nice restaurant in the Sarasota area to my in-laws who live in the area part of the year. Any suggestions?

I'm not very familiar with Sarasota, although we're staying quite close to there over the holidays. My parents love Bonefish Grill in Bradenton. I think it might be about about 20 minutes away from Sarasota?

depends on what type of restaurants they like. do you have any ideas? italian, steak house, seafood, chinese, amish, etc....
if you can give me an idea of what you want or what they like i'll try to give some suggestions. i live in sarasota

They enjoy Italian, Steak and American dining and seafood. Especially seafood.

If you're going to head over that(to Bradenton) way, I'd recommend the Anna Maria Oyster Bar, in Cortez..pretty close to the bridge that brings you onto to Anna Maria Island. Nightly specials that are very good. Several locations

The Columbia Restaurant on Longboat Key. I still crave their black bean soup and stone crabs and the last time I was there was over 20 years ago!

ohhh, i forgot about columbia restaurant! i've only been to the one on st armand's circle

Columbia restaurant is very good, it's located on St. Armands circle. we ate there 3 or 4 times a few weeks ago and many times over the years.There is also a very very good Italian restaurant on the south part of St. Armands circle, can't remember the name but you can't miss it. There is also a Chart House on the very south end of Longboat Key for steak.

I agree with St. Armonds....if you are looking for general but not concerned about the location ( as in beachy/touristy) there is a nice place on University Parkway, W of I-75 called the Stonewood Grill I believe...personally, for just good eats I love Smokey Bones.

PERSONALLY, if I received a GC from a chain restaurant, I'd be a little offended, unless of course that I absolutley ADORED that resturant. You can buy chain resturant GC at the checkout line at your grocery store.....

My parents are in Delray Beach (east coast), they have local resturants with local flair up the ying yang. I can't imagine that Sarasota is any different.

OP, my suggestion is to strike up a conversation with the IL's guide it toward dining and see what places they favor.

Sometime the "older folk" do not like to try something new - they just like what they like.

Yes I want to stay away from the chains. This will be just the second winter they will spend in Sarasota and they do love checking out new places. That's why I thought a GC to a local place would be good. It will let them try a new place and learn more about the area.
