Nice beach w/ lots to do?

Hi,
We're coming to Orlando Thanksgiving week and of our many trips have never been to the beach. I'm looking for one on the gulf that is beautiful, but has other stuff to do besides lay on the beach. My son and husabnd like to fish, boat, etc. but not actually be on the beach. They hate the sand! I prefer not to drive more than 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Thanks for your help.

Saint Pete Beach is very nice.
We stayed at the tradewinds hotel it was nice.reasonable for a beachfront hotel

Ron Jon Cape Caribe is a great hotel with lots of other things to do! We had a great time at this resort. The beach was very nice. Pool was awesome and hotel had free mini golf, indoor play structure, and movie theater!
