I signed up for the Redskins 5k next weekend. I know most NFL teams do a 5k at some point over the summer or early fall. Has anyone run one? I am trying to figure out what to expect. Is it a really big race? Are there a lot of walkers? I ask since the time limit is 90 minutes, I assume there must be enough walkers to warrant such a long limit. I put my finish time in at 45 minutes. I am coming off yet another injury and I dont want to push it too much with my 1/2 marathon 40 days away.

Oh and to make matters even more interesting with this race, I live 1.5 hours away from the stadium and the race starts at 7:30. Because I live so far I will have to do packet pickup at 5:30- 6:30 the morning of, so I will have to get up at 3am! :bitelip:

The Houston one is pretty much a typical 5k. It circles the stadium complex as well as the training complex.

Like most 5ks, these are low pressure community involvement races. I have traveled that far several times for a shorter race. Likewise, I would do packet pickup. I would suggest that you aim for early in the pickup period. The first guys there usually have to stand around while the area gets set up. If you aim to be there a few moments later, its a walk up and out event.

Use the early time to find the portolets (or where the building is open) since you will have 90 minutes of drive time to deal with once you arrive.

Again, very low key, walkable if you want. Have fun and know that your contribution is used for a nice community need.
