Nexus

Yes. When you book your tickets there is a section for trusted traveler. Enter your card number there and you get an expedited line through security at MCO and BUF, although we have never had a real issue getting through security in BUF. We will be doing this for the first time when we leave in a week.

Thanks. Tickets are booked for the next few trips but I'll look for the "trusted traveller" section while doing online checkin.

You can add before check in time ...just add to the document/ immigration section.

I believe some airlines require you to enter it when you purchase your actual ticket, and won't add it after?

With Southwest, there's a spot on your Southwest rewards profile where you can keep your trusted traveller info on file.

And it's very similar with United. Just edit your profile or any of your saved travellers and there's a space for TT info. :)

Our NEXUS cards came today. We applied by mail on Jan 2, got the interview letter 10 days or so later, got an interview a few days after that and the card came 10 days after the interview. One month and two days start to finish and a very straight forward process to boot. Our cards came from Sweetgrass MT not from VT as I expected. A nice feature is an RF shielded envelope to keep the card in. Now where can we go to put this thing to use...?

My daughter and I had our interviews this morning at YYC (my wife obtained her NEXUS card for work over a year ago). They advised that the NEXUS cards would arrive in 2-6 weeks.

The fun part was trying to keep my 10 year old calm and answering the questions from the agents - I think we have been watching too much "Border Security" on tv lately, with all the nogoodniks being questioned and frisked by border agents.

Yep, we live on a borer town, and the Nexus Line never seems to be open at Thousand Islands which is why we have never bothered to get it!

On the Wet Coast, border lines can be over an hour long. Saves me gas big time not waiting as much. Well worth it.

With respect to adding trusted traveller if you didn't have it when you booked your tickets, both Jetblue and Southwest allow you to do so after you purchase and before your print your boarding passes. Jetblue can be added online but Southwest requires you call them to add. We just did this on our trip last week. So much easier clearing security.

About 6 yrs ago we were considering getting the Nexus card. We decided we would first see if we were going to save time. We travel to Orlando/US every 6 mths for a family vacation and a few times across the border. So we thought it would be helpful. We checked the lines every time we travelled and found that in (airports) half the time, the Nexus line was closed and the other half it had long lines as well. As for the border crossing, we noticed it was closed or very difficult to get into until you were closer to the front. So we decided not to bother.

It looks like others had much better experiences. We did tend to go during peak periods, but that's when it would be useful...

Perhaps, we'll start checking again...

Good to know! I will do that today! thanks.

So far I'm pretty happy with Nexus although I've never used it to return to Canada. I turn into a nervous Nellie and go through the regular line (which has never been long) but going into the US it has saved us hours of waiting. On the last trip, I was the last car in before they shut down the border (this was just before xmas). Some kind of computer glitch, but both our cards had scanned before I pulled up so we were good.

I haven't read through all the pages ... is anyone waiting on questions to be answered?

I am flying YYZ to ORLANDO on Friday, but West Jet says they can't add trusted traveller info over the phone, and I have to add it at check in..... hopefully this will be enough time that I can use Pre- check for our return flight from MCO on the 14th of Nov! Wonder why there's no spot online to add the info, or why the agent can't add it over the phone!

chimo2u, in Fort Lauderdale I was not able to use my Nexus card when I flew West Jet. The security person there told me that West Jet doesn't participate in the trusted traveler program even though West Jet customer service told me it wouldn't be a problem to use my card in Fort Lauderdale. Like you, I couldn't add my number online. Be prepared as you will most likely not be able to use your Nexus card in Orlando.

That's a serious disadvantage of flying to the US on WJ, then. Having NEXUS has made a huge difference in our travel experiences. I love the Global Entry kiosks going into the US but find the eye scan coming back to Canada a bit fiddly to get it to work right. Maybe it's just me.

TSA Pre check is not a part of NEXUS/Global Entry, so you may not get it although I think it gives you a greater chance for random selection. Which is better than nothing. TSA lines are crazy long at MCO.

Just returned from Orlando on Friday. Entered our Nexus numbers while printing our boarding passes. Got the "Pre Check" on our boarding passes. Took the Pre Check lane at the airport and we were at the gate in minutes. Been doing this for the last 4 or 5 trips.

I've been meaning to get NEXUS for my family, but as my wife just finished her citizenship test we're now waiting to get the ceremony invite and get the passport process started.

We love Nexus we use it out of Montreal. It saves us so much time at the border. Can't imagine crossing with out it anymore. Regarding Duty, like other have said it depends on the agent. We have been really lucky!

So relieved! DH's nexus card arrived JUST in time!!! It only took 7 days in the mail from the date of interview ☺️ We fly in 2 days so I'm very glad it arrived in time!
