NextGen/xPass Making the News Again

Just found this article discussing NextGen and xPass. Mostly familiar sources repeating familiar theories, but the words "free service" stood out to me. Take it as you will.

The first thing that jumped out at me was that they are talking about WDW but the picture is of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

I am still not sure about this, I am not one to plan every little detail of our trip, I don't use any sort of time charts for our planning. I have no clue where we are going to be months before our trip, yes I will know which park we will be in and where we will be eating, but who knows which ride, attraction, or character we will be meeting at a particular time. This will be another case of wait and see before making a final decision on my thoughts. As of right now, it sounds like those who just want to go with the flow, will have a much harder time doing so. BTW I too thought it was really strange that they pictured Sleeping Beauty's Castle while talking about WDW .

I hope this NEVER happens. A last minute trip may no longer be possible because everything will be booked. Its nag enough that you can't get popular restaurants last minute.

it makes me a little sadder about the future of America every time I see someone repeat hat one talking head has said about fox news. I have never seen them report anything blatantly untrue. they have their bias, just like every other news outlet. Look at how the Today show has blatantly manipulated facts lately.

All news outlets make all sorts of errors in their stories. Watch a news story sometime that discusses a topic you know alot about and I bet you find all sorts of inaccuracies and generalizations.

I just spoke to Sandra Halket who is featured in the FOX NEW article.

She said that the NEXT-GEN is true!

I wonder how will they keep people from making reservations at the various rides and then not cancelling them if their plans change? Will it make the rides as difficult to do as trying to get seating at a sit-down restaurant?

It won't matter. It's not the same as eating in a restaurant. They won't hold a ride vehicle waiting for someone to make their X-pass reservation. Everyone just loads into the next vehicle regardless of which line they are standing in.

Agreed. But I can see them tweeking how many x-pass "reservations" are allowed to account for no shows. If they discover x% aren't showing up, they might open up more slots for reservations.

But, we have no idea of HOW it will work.

What many think of as being able to "pre-plan your FP's" will likely not happen in such a way as to be very satisfactory to most guests... even "planners."

Why?
Just imagine how many FP's could even be made available during any given day for a popular attraction (think, Toy Story Mania or Soarin') that all of the guests who want that FP on their day at that park (and not during their dinner, or being at another show or attraction, or timed too early or too late in the day) to even be able to get an "advance FP" for that attraction.

There are simply not enough "FP seats" available to make everyone happy on almost any given day.

I see this as a potential nightmare.

I hope that what actually transpires will be a great plan that is actually workable for guests...
from average newbies to old pros.

Time will tell.

I agree with Robo. Time will only tell and hopefully it is something that will be great as Disney is known for being the best when it comes to customer service/satisfaction and crowd management; but a part of me feels that this NextGen/Xpass stuff is all a bit much. The unknown is very much of a nightmare for someone like me who sees WDW as the greatest family vacation destination for reasons that may all completely change. It is difficult for me to see how having to reserve a time slot months ahead of time in order to have the opportunity to enjoy WDW's popular attractions is going to work for most people, especially families with children.
