A few years ago I expanded to 3 florist shops and considered carrying on expanding, 4 years ago Mum passed away, decide to sell 2 and just run the 1 shop on my own with no hassle and enjoy life, so glad I did after whats happening now.

Is that a different company from Empire Stores?

This recession is so different from the others because the banks just are not lending.

It is so scarey.

Must say we have used ED a few times and they were good, shame to see them go :(

Sounds like a sensible decision you made Wayne.

Yes Empire stores is part of the Littleswoods chain.
Empire Direct is an Electical group. Very good prices usually, obviously too low.

I've not heard of them. Do they have shops or is it an on-line business?

But Littlewoods has'nt/is'nt affected by this :confused3 .x.

Littlewoods and Empire stores are unaffected.
Totally different company to Empre Direct, they were an independant electrical retailer.

Cheers Wayne,i panicked a little there,my Nan just handed over £299 on her card for a fridge freezer today.x.

Thats a shame, we have bought several things from them in the past as they always were cheaper.

It's a shame. ED used to be a very good on-line electrical retailer offering great prices.

Makes you wonder whether expanding into opening stores was a bad move for them.

thats a shame :sad2:

I would say you certainly made the right choice :thumbsup2 My dad passed away at the young age of 52 having worked like a trojan all his life. My motto now is enjoy life (within reason of couse) and make special memories with my family :grouphug:

I think that we'll see yet more of this sadly.

Ironically, this maybe shows the downside to online retailers offering really cheap prices - somewhat simplistic I know but has to be a factor.

I can certainly vouch for how difficult it is in the job market at the moment as I'm looking for one!

Very weird and hard times ahead for the next 12 months I would guess.

where will this all end...it won't take long for us to slip to being a 3rd world economy

what anoys me is that there is no help forthcoming from government, via HMRC for the likes of us
Me i still have to pay my tax bill, just done it and it didnt hurt too much
but with the way tax is for the self employed it tends to lag behing a year.so next year will be on a good year(up to last oct) but the money they want will be mostley earned over the coming year (yes i have got it).but if things turn bad and out of work they will still want there poud off flesh.were as the banks shear stupidity means they keep being bailed out
