Next Food Network Star ~ Official 2009 Summer Thread

Isn't the Brett also the one that made the disparaging comments about the kitchen facility for the challenge to Chef Guarnacelli (no way I spelled that right!)? That was a major idiot move!

Yeah thats him. he made a LOT of idiot moves.

I really like Jamika's personality, she looks like such a nice person.:goodvibes Another one here who would like to slap Brett or whatever his name is.:headache:

I missed watching it last night (but then haven't watched much TV lately lol), but Jamika is actually from our hometown. I remembered they had an article on her just recently about the show. I've waited on her dad at my post office (he is a local doctor) and many times over the years he's talked about cooking for his crowd during the holidays and how they love his cooking. :) Apparently she comes by her cooking honestly. lol (Not to mention I always love hearing his 'island' accent, lol)

Kim

Apparently Jamika is getting a lot of press! There was an article about her here because she graduated from Xavier University. She said she does a lot of "New Orleans" style cooking which I'll be excited to see.:goodvibes

I also heard Debbie (in the store) say she couldn't find the mustard. She seems dishonest and I wouldn't mind seeing her go soon.

I heard that as well, and I made the same comment to my DH. The restaurant chef makes me nuts!

I'm rooting for Melissa...and add me to the list of those who won't be disappointed when it's Debbie's time to go. She really showed an overall lack of character, and I'm glad the Food Network execs mentioned how important character is when they were speaking with her at the elimination.

Who was the guy in the blue shirt last night?? The "leader" of the Green team?

They need to tell him to watch his attitude. I realize it's a kitchen and foodservice, but he kept calling all the girls "Sweetie" and "Beautiful." Ughhhhh it's 2009, not 1950.

That was Brett, he's from NYC. I know what you mean about him. He also said the men should leave the ladies alone so they could settle in and talk about lipstick.

I wanted to smack him! :headache: He was beyond obnoxious! I think he needed to see what women can do if they really want to put their lipstick to good use :rolleyes1

As much as Green Bean Girl needed to go home, I wanted Debbie to get sent home. She made terrible decisions, was lying or clueless and chose to serve the silly dessert! I think she is going to get old very fast!

I don't really care for Jamika. I think I am in the minority. Thats ok. :)

I'm actually glad Debbie stayed. As much as her organizational and leadership skills sucked, I'm intrigued by her cooking style. I'm a Southern girl that LOVES Asian food, so I want to see what she has to offer. However, my 8 year old would have known that store bought Angel Food Cake was a BAD idea. :confused3

I can't stand Brett. I really don't like Jeffrey, either. He comes off creepy to me.

I like Jeffrey. He reminds me of someone but I can't pinpoint who...I also like the mohawk guy, and the gay guy

I always find TNFS to be a poor Top Chef imitation. They even have the same Judges Table. I watch it because I'm a foodie and I'm curious to see what other people are cooking. Top Chef is having a new series starting tomarrow Top Chef Masters. I wonder if they did it on purpose to compete with TNFS. I'll probably watch both. The major problem I have with the Food Network is they shove chefs that you like down your throat so after awhile your sick of them. For Example I used to like Bobby Flay but he is on adnauseum and he is always in your face. What does he have 20 shows on?? Paula Deen same thing she has about 10 shows. I hate Flays Throwdown show I think it is so obnoxious. Those poor people spend their whole life perfecting a signature dish and they think they are on the Food Network to do a little show about them But no it can't be about their achievement it has to be about Bobby and his "greatness". How although you spent years perfecting X god Bobby can kick your butt and make it better. I hope they don't ruin Ina Garten she is my absolute favorite.

DH and I wanted the Asian lady to go home soooo badly but we knew she wouldn't.

ITA :thumbsup2 - Making an "executive decision" to buy premade angel food cake for TFN - Seriously????? And then not standing up and saying this was her decision????? That was just so freaking wrong!

Debbie doesn't have an ounce of integrity and she needs to go. Now.

Michael annoyed the crap out of me.

I wasn't fond of Brett, but it had nothing to do with the "sweetie" stuff. That doesn't bother me a bit and I don't find it offensive. He was just... weird.

I LOVE Jeffrey. Love him.

Adam was my hands-down favorite last year and I'm so happy that he got a show, even if he isn't the one cooking. He has so much personality.

Holy crap... I cannot believe the way Brett threw Melissa under the bus (and tried to get Teddy to do it for him!)

OMG. I'm kinda stunned. What a jerk.

I'm really impressed that Eddie handed out the holidays in a way that he thought was helpful to each contestant.

And now the preview for next week, Miss Liar herself has the gall to say she doesn't trust a teammate?! That's hilarious. I can't stand Debbie and really, really want her to go.

Team Jeffrey :goodvibes
(and seriously, how is Groundhog Day a holiday?!)

The holiday competition was difficult. Seriously, Groundhog's Day and Labor Day are a lot more difficult than some of the others. Why didn't the do the 4th of July and some other more common holidays?

I really wanted Earth Day girl to go home tonight. But, I am also happy to be rid of Brett. Too bad they couldn't send both of them home. ;)

I am so glad Brett is gone. He was annoying and to imply that Melissa didn't make her food was really low. I'm not sure how I feel about most of the other contestants. I do like Jamika, but the rest are a little hard for me to read.

Kim

I like Jamika. I don't care for Antioxidant Girl! She seems like a nice person, but who wants to hear about antioxidants when they're about to eat?:confused3

I really thought that Health Food girl had to go tonight! She hasn't made anything they have liked yet, has she? I totally agreed that she makes me want to curl up with a bag of chips and a frozen burrito and throw things at the TV!

But I am happy with Brett gone too. Don't be nice and offer to help and then throw her under the bus. Either help cause you are a nice guy or stay out of it.

I like the gay guy, but I am afraid that Food Network is going to decide that he is just too "alternative" for their white bread audience and find a reason to cut him at their first chance.

Groundhog's Day was a bit ridiculous. April Fool's day was hard, but I think a creative chef could have come up with something neat... like using ingredients in a completely unexpected way.

To me, Labor Day was really easy and the contestant missed the boat on that one. As a kid, growing up in a beach town, Labor Day always signified the end of summer and going back to school. He could have done a clam bake, picnic or barbecue and it would have worked really well.

Just my two cents.

Mary
PS- I think the judges had planned on sending home "Earth Day Girl", but Brett was such a donkey during judging that they kicked him to the curb sooner than they had planned on.

The first winners of the Food Network Star show were a gay couple - remember them? They got a show but their show was deadly boring. I don't know if it's still on.

Brett acted like a jerk. He had to go first. The antioxidant lady may be next if she doesn't try to have some fun with her cooking.
