Hey all! I usually post over on the DVC and Theme Park boards, but have been popping my head up over here in the Community area from time to time lately. As some of you know from my posts, I work for the online edition of The Salt Lake Tribune. One of our editors put out a call for help on a story, so I'm hoping you all will want to participate.

We're doing a lot of stories after the first of the year on the two-year anniversary of the Olympic games. (Which was SO much fun, by the way!) One of the pieces they are working on is about how Utah is perceived outside the state and whether that perception has changed since or because of the Olympic coverage we got.

Do you now strongly associate Utah with the Winter Olympics? Or are we still that quaint place with Mormons? Did your perceptions change after seeing Utah every night on NBC?

I've lived here for 10 years and am not of the dominant faith. While some of the things I thought before moving here were true to some extent, much of it was not. We're trying to find out how much of the perception is going away, or if it is at all. Please be honest in your answers and tell me what you really think.

Feel free to PM me if you like or e-mail me at my work address (kimm@sltrib.com). If you could include your name, age and city that would be great, too. Thanks!!

::Bump::

Anyone? Pretty pleeeeeeaaaaaassssseeeee with sugar on top? :crazy:

Thanks for the PMs! I've only got a couple, so if anyone else is mulling this over, I'd appreciate a few minutes of your time. Don't forget to include your real name, age and city/state in case they want to use your quote. I'll be sure and post a link here when it runs!

This is a really interesting question, especially since your state has had so much happening in the past 2 years that could be considered 'newsworthy' on a national (and international) level.

The Olympics, Elizabeth Smart, the Tom Green story and trial.

Aside from these snippets, I am embarressed to say I don't know much about Utah. And itellectually I *know* that not everyone in Utah could possibly be Mormon, it is generally the first thing that pops into my head when the subject is raised. Silly, I know.

I would love to see the story when you are done with it, and I will PM you with my name, state and age.

I guess the first thing that pops into my head when someone mentions Utah is that SLC is one of the top places to do genealogy research. Next thing is the the National Parks.

Now the first thing my boys thing of is the Olympics and the "big lake." I asked them about the Mormons and they said the MorWho???? :p Around here they are used to the Amish but havent really heard of the Mormons.

Utah....Salt Lake, mormons, skiing, weird rules about going to bars (is this the right state?)

All I really know about Utah, other than Mormons and the choir is that we hired an out of work Olympic organizer as Governor here.
