News Round Up 2020

Everything I have read said it will be heavy on the films and streaming and stuff so I wouldn't expect a ton of details on the parks. Dis see they will cover how they are handling the parks with the pandemic so maybe some guidance on when they think they can increase capacity or under what conditions, etc.

Might get one or two surprises but I wouldn't expect much park related details

I think we’ve only heard that they’re going to talk movies/shows, because usually that stuff leaks before parks news with a wider net of reporters dealing with that side of the business. A majority will be movies/tv, but I dont think that’s all it will be. Remember, there was no Destination D last month where they would have likely announced a large portion of the 50th plans if this were a normal year. I think a Rat date is very possible. Maybe no 50th plans because of continued uncertainties and it avoids the possibility of false promises. But Disney knows far more than we do when it comes to what they’re likely going to be able to do months in advance, so you never know.

I’m sure they have plans, but I can’t imagine they’d want to announce anything too concrete until they know what they’re getting into. I think 50th plans are fluid until at least Spring.

At some point they’re going to hit a point where no matter what, they’re going to have to announce something. Pushing the reveals back just delay potential advanced reservations. Sure, there are plenty of people (like myself) that are going Oct 1st no matter what, but there are also going to be a lot of people that want to know what’s going on for the celebration before making that financial commitment. I think the odds are slim that anything is revealed today for the 50th but there’s a chance that even in the spring things aren’t good enough to make any plans more concrete than they could today.

true, though I think we got more out the IAAPA event than I was expecting so I think some of that was info that would have been in Destination D

We might get a Rat Date or at least mor einfo - I think they are just hesitant to say it will be March 1st (or whatever) and then have to push it off, so might be more directionally and more based on developments and stuff, but we shall see!

Plenty of us are crazy enough. I booked Contemporary back in May for it. I’ll go regardless.

I just think the stuff like parades and fireworks are late announcements, which are what people want to hear about most. I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce a special event to some degree and keep it vague enough to draw in without having to walk back.

A date for Ratatouille is easier. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just opened it one day without fanfare to avoid opening day chaos.

I don’t personally see them needing to push it back unless something catastrophic happens. I think worst case is they’re going to just rip the bandaid off like WB just did with their movies. They have Guardians and Tron coming in the next 10-16 months. Rise and MMRR are still brand new. As much as they’d like a big celebration of Rat opening, it might just be more beneficial to have it up and running, working through the kinks before the crowds arrive.

Considering MK is already booked for APs on Oct 1st (extremely likely to open up more availability before we get there) I think it’s safe to say there are many of us crazy’s that will be there. I also haven’t looked at DVC availability for that week since I booked my room, and I don’t know what their demand expectations were for that weekend, I’m sure they would have liked to see some hotels fully booked rather quickly though.

Parades, maybe not. But they’re inching ever so closely to having Harmonius ready. When they actually start it is another question, but I’m guessing a lot of things would have to go wrong for them to wave off fireworks for the 50th. They could always announce the rumored Project Nugget 50th show, and worst comes to worst, just like Tron and Guardians, it doesn’t start for the actual 50th, but they can let people know it’s coming. Who knows. They could hold a separate presentation in say, February for all the 50th stuff and reveal the fireworks plans then.

I can see Harmonius being ready 'soon' but them delaying it due to the logistics of trying to safely empty the park of thousands of people at the same time. Currently there seems to be a natural slow emptying of the parks that happens as people complete their activities for the day. A nighttime spectacular adds a whole new dimension that they have not had to tackle yet.

Uh oh .. wasn't there another movie named Spider Man 3 that was horrible for this EXACT same problem? Too many heroes and villains and thus too many storylines?

But .. Marvel has been able to handle multiple characters well in the Avengers movies -- hopefully this won't be the same disaster as the original Spiderman 3.
Spiderman 3 wasn't horrible because there were too many characters - it was horrible because of a dumb script. The too many characters was also a symptom of a bad script.

Well, one way to counter the "Exit Surge" would be to schedule the night time event earlier (still after dark, but that happens pretty early in winter and early spring) and keep park open a couple hours afterwards.... with dining, stores and attractions operating. Some families will leave, but some will stay longer to enjoy the parks.... Would also take the strain off the bus loading areas.

Just a thought.

If Horn is gone, they’re fully pivoting towards Disney+~ and not event films still in theaters. Unless this is a move he’s making on his own terms, but the man has been at the head of the most successful theatrical run of all time
