News Round Up 2016

There are some rumors that the bulk of the convention business will be moved to the Yacht/Beach Club and Coronado Springs.
The Contemporary Convention Center would be demolished and another DVC would be constructed in its location.

Guess we'll see if this pans out!

Very interesting! I don't see the idea of a Moderate DVC being a good idea based on some of the opinions I've read here. But that could be a good use of space otherwise. Shame for those at Coronado though. Conventions can be huge and disruptive and I only dealt with it for a couple days.

I've spent about 60 nights at Coronado Springs since 2010. The conventions have never been an issue for us. Hardly notice them at all. I notice the sports teams more than I notice convention people.

I know there have been rumors of more DVC but the rumors I have seen have it going where the garden wing is now. I don't think we are close to that though. Likely 5 years away at the earliest.

Replacing the Contemporary Convention Center with another DVC would not be a "moderate" DVC...that would still be deluxe. It would give them more "Magic Kingdom" view rooms to charge huge points for.

I think we would have seen people discussing this on the paper FP though if it was on there since Oct. 1st. Why are we first seeing it Oct. 30th is my question.
Not sure, I'm just saying that's how they print out guest recovery fps

Major conventions are booked years in advance. For the national conventions at places like the Orange County (FL) Convention Center, it wouldn't be unheard of to have conventions booked a decade in advance.

If Convention Center at Disney's Contemporary Resort is going away, it would require a lot of lead time. The last thing Disney would want is to upset a convention planner by changing the location. The bills for major conventions can run into six figures. If a convention planner (or other decision maker) feels slighted and takes their business elsewhere, Disney could easily lose $1 million+ in recurring revenue.

This is all very true - but DVC planning is going on 5+ years out as well. While I would agree that they probably have guarantees out 2-3 years, I would say beyond that they could certainly inform conventions that they are moving locations in 4 years.

Right now you have:
Poly DVC -2015-2017 & WLV 2.0 DVC - 2017-2019
The next DVC construction will likely start in 2017 or 2018, so probably not that location - rumors persist of a CBR located DVC as next up. Beyond that - well that could be contemporary starting in 2020 or so. 4 years would be enough time to clear the docket.

There are also rumors of even more conversion at resorts like BC. Poly also has rumors of more DVC coming. They definitely plan for 5-10 years down the road.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I'm referring to maybe no DVC going to CBR or CSR.

It seems like a bad choice but I'm curious on how they'd spin it.

I think the AoA suites may have created a new selling category. I could see parents that love the AoA suites start to "move up the ladder" so to speak forming a whole new demographic. If I were Disney, I would market a moderate DVC and hit at the area like most golf courses across the country have junior memberships. They get people started, then hope to cultivate them on to the deluxe DVC's when kids are gone and the parents are in their highest earning years. Movin on up with a new meaning. I could see mod DVC with smaller Kitchens, less square feet, possible bunk bed rooms, a couple of the split bathrooms like the Poly suites only decorated differently.

We also don't know if the DVC at moderates will be a new category of DVC in which they are sold at say a moderate DVC price point or if they will just be part of the deluxe DVC model.

Rumor

Wreck it Ralph is a lock for Stitch and work will begin in January.

Marvel will make its way into Epcot. We could even see guardians in both ToT and Energy. Marvel will have more precedence in Epcot than it will DHS but it won't have a marvel land.

Wreck it Ralph would be great, but man do I hate the idea of guardians going in everywhere. I'll admit I have zero cares about Guardians in the first place, but it's going to feel weird having major attractions for the same thing across multiple parks.

There are already examples of this, however. For instance, you have the Nemo musical show in AK, plus the The Seas with Nemo in Epcot.
