News Round Up 2016

I HATE the idea of a Star Wars show in Disneyland. It's grosses me out. I could see doing a Star Wars WOC (even that's kind of gross) but it just seems so inappropriate as the night time show. Hope this is false. It's bad enough that the Star Wars land is going into Disneyland proper. They need to maintain a strict separation in DL and the MK, IMO. I just don't want to see Star Wars crap on the castle, it's a weird cognitive and emotional dissonance.

I still don't think DHS's ToT will ever see an overlay. It's too iconic and I don't see the point - it's a classic, popular attraction as it is. Why waste the money to make something new? I really think this rumor was always just a misunderstanding of the plans to overlay the DL version. This latest update amounts to little more than 'maybe they will, maybe they won't' - he'll be right either way.

I kind of feel the same. I'm okay with Star Wars land going to Disneyland, but taking away the classic characters in favor of Star Wars doesn't seem right. Then again, after the ToT overlay confirmation, nothing really surprises me anymore.

World of Color Celebrate to end September 5th original world of color will return

As much as I enjoyed Celebrate, it wasn't as epic or moving as the original show. Hopefully they'll change a couple of segments for different properties though, although it seems like they won't.

Any confirmation about what's being updated?

No confirmation just rumors that the Disneyland affects are coming.

Really?

The "classic" of the classics Snow White was 17 years old when Disneyland opened. Star Wars today is almost 40 years old. It is far more classic than Snow White was when the park opened (in terms of movies).

The point is - things change and move. Star Wars is as much a part of current era classics as Snow White and Pinocchio and Peter Pan were when they moved into the parks.

Star Wars and Marvel and Pixar are part of the family.

I don't disagree with anything you've posted. For me the MK/DLR castle fireworks show is like the very heart of the experience of the park, and it just doesn't seem right for something with no connection to Walt or his legacy to be the subject of the show. In any other park I have no issue with it, but in the MK it just feels wrong.

There is so much in MK/DLR that have no ties to Walt nowadays. Stitch, Wreck it Ralph, all pixar, Lion King, Ariel, etc are not Walt or legacy. This is a wide ranging argument over what is Walt's legacy (Mickey Mouse and unique properties, or Snow White and repurposed fairy tales?).

Anyhow, I think we need to accept that Disney as an entity has always needed to expand from a "princess" centric property, and Marvel/Star Wars give it the platform to do that. And Star Wars uniquely is an open book for them to speak to adults/children/boys/girls. I think its a positive. And I'm sure it will be "incorporated" and not replace. I'm sure we'll still see Tinkerbell flying from the castle and not Boba Fett. ;) You can argue Star Wars is as much fantasy as Pirates or Sea Witches... and that is something Disney can work with. Maybe some of that is my wishful thinking, but I have confidence.

I think the only place our opinions differ is that I consider Stitch, Lion King, Little Mermaid, etc to be in the spirit of Walt's legacy. Star Wars and Marvel, to me, are not quite the same - although I do agree that their presence in the parks will ultimately be a positive. I think I just want the MK to remain as 'pure' as possible, whatever that means. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see if anything comes of this. :)
