News Round Up 2016

"And now...the absolute DUMBEST idea in human history..."

I never really got the tie-in of Twilight Zone with Disney anyway, so I don't see this plan being any dumber. I know there seem to be a lot of Twilight Zone super fans on here, but I don't get it at all. Were Rod Serling and Walt Disney buddies or something?

As far as the theme fitting the ride, you always have to stretch your imagination for these things. I'm sure they can make the motion of the elevators fit some story line if they want to.

It's doesn't fit in as well for DCA but it's fits in great with the old Hollywood theme of DHS. An old Hollywood hotel that's haunted with a great back story and arguably one of the best ride systems Disney has ever created.

The FP tier complaints don't exactly make sense to me. Is there actually an expectation among folks that they should be able to get a fast pass for the three most popular rides? What would be the point of FP in Epcot if it wasn't tiered? As it has been said, folks would just choose the exact same three rides. So now, instead of helping you do a few things faster, it simply pushes the crowds into every single other line and makes it virtually impossible to go on one of the big three without a fastpass. Tiering it forces some of those fast passes to go to mid tier attractions, breaking up the deadlock a bit.

I haven't gotten a Soarin' fast pass in the last 3 times I've been to Epcot, because I can simply walk on when the park opens. My point being, there are other ways to go about experiencing the park outside of fastpasses.... that is just one extra way of getting a few more things done.

How would it affect the stand-by lines for these 3 rides? The same number of fast passes would be given out as there are today. The tiers just keep the same people from collecting all 3 fast passes.

The point is that magic kingdom
Has enough variety to provide an effective mix...the other parks really don't.

Augmenting the parks is the longterm
Solution.

And the short term is not going to the park. I haven't been in DHS for years except for once to do club villian.

Epcot still has drinks, so........

Their theory is "at least most people get one thing..."
How low of a bar is that to come in over on though?

Yeah you're right-- I wish they would just drop the tiers-- everything else has to be planned early-- just let it happen. At least DHS has one of the good rides on tier 2-- TOT?

"Mobs", huh?

I'm not a collector but I do eBay resales on the side so I joined the FB groups to get a sense of what people wanted...and holy cannoli, were people PISSED about this set. Bright side, many many many folks are going to line up to have them shipped to them ;)

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled grumbling over free dining or something like that.

Multiple sources saying Guardians of the Galaxy overlay for Tower of Terror will be announced tomorrow at San Diego Comic Con. Joe Rohde has posted on Twitter that he is in San Diego for the event and Joe was put in charge of marvel for imagineering last year.

If you're trying to make my head spontaneously combust...this is a good start...

What's interesting if you look into the history of the ride - it was originally conceived as a sort of comedy ride with Mel Brooks - "Mel Brook's Hollywood Horror Hotel". That only later morphed into the Twilight Zone thing. There is no Disney relation per se...

I think what people get upset about (and I can't say I am livid, but I do agree it's dumb) is that it is already an extremely well-themed and entertaining ride that has aged extremely well - perhaps better than anything else at DHS. I can't name a single attraction at DHS that holds up as well in 2016 as ToT does. (RnRC is still a great ride - but Aerosmith feel like Antiques in the music industry today, GMR is creaky as anything with the most recent movie being 30+ years old. Star Tours is in good shape, but only because it was rebooted a few years ago. The stage shows haven't changed in 20 years and all need updating.)

So I really think a lot of it is the thinking of with everything that is wrong at DHS and Disney in general - why in world would you pick THIS to re-theme?

Since it seems like it's not going to happen the point is pretty moot, but still I thought I would explain.
