News Round Up 2016

WDW Magic is reporting that the new version of My Disney Experience with "Get Directions" functionality is now available on the App Store and Google Play.
http://www.wdwmagic.com/other/mymag...irections-feature-of-my-disney-experience.htm

I was tinkering with it last night...the app is evolving nicely...

The one thing I noticed about dining is now you can just search by date, time and party size...and they don't show you what's not available at this point (a welcome change)...but now you can't limit your search to specific parks/areas...that could be annoying to newbies.

That skippers menu seems...dare I say...somewhat "exotic" for Disney. Especially magic magic kingdom.

Whole fish? Wow...those rebels ;)

And where's the salmon? Somebody call the Food Anti-deviation of Wholesale Supply Inspection Unit (FADWSIU)...

Launched the app to play around with the "Get Directions" feature. Crashed as soon as I hit the "Get Directions" button. Sent a report.

Skipper Canteen debuts new menu

We have an ADR for our October trip. I am looking forward to checking this out - glad they didn't dumb it down too much. I find the places with the unique foods also tend to be the best quality.

Love the "Taste Like Chicken (Because it is!)" as a reference to the sign in the JC queue.

Supposed to go 7/31...

But it's magic Kingdom...so I'm severely skeptical it's worth it...

Skippers might become
My new "boathouse"...book it everytime, cancel it everytime.

STK is already on that list as well. I have higher hopes for some of the other recent openings at springs

Just a heads up, if you're like me and love the corny jokes and sight gags, some servers are all about it and some aren't. One server we had was telling us about his wife that worked at Sci-Fi. He was very nice, and while I don't want someone to completely lose who they are as a person, it was a tad weird having that conversation with him when we were hoping to get someone who was more in character.

Anyways, with that being said, if you get a server who is more in character, ask if he/she will give your a tour of the restaurant. See the video below of someone getting a tour and the server pointing out sight gags as well as things that were put into the restaurant to pay tribute to the original imagineers of the jungle cruise. The video opened my eyes to the level of detail in that place...cause at first glance I wasn't too impressed.

From what I've heard if you are more adventurous you'll like skipper canteen. Know my question is why don't you like boathouse? STK just seems too expensive for me to try.

Yes the in character part really depends on the server.

For what it's worth, I thought the Skip's Mac and Cheese was quite good. Fiancee got the S.E.A. Shu Mai and Baladi Salad...she said they were good too. She is way more of an adventurous eater than I am though.

I've heard good things about boathouse...it's not that

...I've just grown weary of the prices...which is a point I never thought I'd get too...

They just don't have anything close to a $50 steak in WDW...even with the LBV markup.

If I'm completely honest...it's a cumulative effect of property wide massive price increases while the offerings overall have not improved and maybe has gotten worse. That's the Iger "era".
They Broke me.

I mean, EPCOT can only get better, right? Please? Don't ruin my favorite park Bob...

EPCOT is my favorite too. I think an educational theme is gone.

I also can't think of a time I walked out of Universe of Energy and thought

1. That doesn't need an update

2. That was a good length of time to spend

Well I have boathouse booked for January and I'm excited to try it.

Education is gone and it's unfortunate. 1. Is a given. 2. One of the reasons I haven't wasted the time to see it. I would've loved to see the original though.

News/rumor

With the pending GOTG redo of Universe of Energy, the height balloons were spotted in future world which is for a second show building that will be taller and attached to the energy pavilion. The current pavilion will stay but the inside will be gutted. A second building will be built and attached to the original building hence the height balloons spotted.
