What? We agree again. I am much disturbed.

The cheapest regular studio at OKW can run you between 10 points a night and as high as 26, though typically between 10-19 per night outside of high season. The most "expensive" studios at Poly and Grand Floridian (lake view) are 20-42 points per night, depending on the season.
. Even if you went with smaller accommodations, they aren't going to want to sell less than 8-16 points per night - the cost would just be TOO low. . I don't want to come off like a DVC snob or anything, because we spent a lot of years staying at moderates and enjoyed them very much, but doubt they very much want to add a DVC property that's a "lesser" property. They also would have to price it SOOO low. In order to make it compare favorable to just renting a moderate room, you would have to price it so the point costs per night only come out to $50-125 per night in maintenance fees costs - and quite honestly Disney would not look at that as profitable enough.
What I more picture is a resort similar to OKW or SSR - not a true moderate, but not as luxe as say VGF or Poly. Points would be in the same range as those resorts - not some lower rate.

And what that would do for Disney would be to add points for sale at a lower point per stay home resort, such as SSR, OKW,? (which they have only RFR stock, if any). For years they have been heading towards the more elite stays, but maybe are trying to round out the options. This would also help them with peoples desire to buy resale for less expense.
Hey-- if you buy 100 points at CBR, you can stay for 10 nights at your home resort with the 11 month booking, not having to fight for availability, and you get full benefits of DVC (whatever that is worth is subjective)
And for only 16k--- Sounds like the sales pitch writes itself.....

$175 a point
6/Pts week night
$4.50 maintenance fees
Over 7 years (standard) DVC pay back, comes to $177/night for an updated moderate. Not great not bad for customer.
For Disney they get on a point / maint fee about 18% cash to cash. Deluxe DVCs are closer to 25% - but without the food and deluxe amenities? I can see them giving this a go. I'm going with sub 8 point value season studios and points priced the same.

Even if the old guard says "we'll try it once" and says "it was nice..." After they stay...
...they will go back to OKW, beach club, blt in a New York minute (no pun intended)...
It's all spelled out beautifully there...they sold half as many points monthly at $160 a point than they did at $135...with no major overall economic upheaval.
That's the truth under the smoke: they have overpriced the points and now that's gonna take time to catch up to "expand the program"
Unless...they start to lower the price/quality of the product.
Timing wise it could be interesting too if they are trying to "lock in" people at a lower price point before Universal gets a 3rd gate (or 4th if you count Volcano Bay) and becomes a full week long destination
Everyone keeps talking about how they could connect the new dvc resort to Epcot. I wonder if this could be related to the Star Wars expansion. With the new DHS entrance going in, CBR will be just across the road from there and there aren't really any resorts that are currently connected to DHS. I know the Epcot area resorts are, but they're much closer to Epcot. This one could be marketed to fans of all the new things coming to DHS. Just a thought.
There's no way they're building a new moderate resort at the new pricing model.
They could...
But here's the problem: they created this system based on their own hotel "tiers"...
...they can no longer sell their deluxe rooms at the rates. Out kicked their coverage there about 10 years ago.
So they convert to DVC...but jack up the costs and the points...
From recent rumors...that may not be doing well either anymore. Poly is not flying off the shelfs and they are committed to wilderness lodge.
So now...go "backwards"? Sell Caribbean at $75 a point...charge 6 points a night?
Nope...they'll want $150 a point and want you to book at 10 or 11 a night and tell you what a deal it is...
The water is starting to leak through the cracks of the DVC damn.
Quite simply...and I know it as well as anyone...Caribbean does not provide enough of an allure to the established DVC base. Neither the convenience or the facilities. Even canals to Epcot AND mgm may not be enough.
And the canal to Epcot would have to connect onto the crescent lake near boardwalk to get access. That could be long cruises.
Now that sounds much better than the one I did in April...does it say anything about seating - the outside one was standing tables only...oy...after being on my feet all day, then standing for two hours at the party before the FW show even started.....would be awesome to have seating at tables inside Launch Bay....Just an FYI that the Star Wars Dessert Party is now bookable through the end of July and starting July 10th the actual party will take place inside the Star Wars Launch Bay and they you will be escorted out to the viewing area
Wonder if this means the actual roped off viewing area is changing in size to allow for more room with good view for other people
I am actually kind of excited for it to be inside the launch bay - be even cooler if characters are then part of it (but no mention of that)
Edit, per the HUB: Guests are immersed in the Star Wars experience, surrounded by photo opportunities, exciting exhibits and thrilling character encounters.

Reminder
We have a thread started on the DVC topic. If we could take that discussion there that would be great Thank you!
