News Round Up 2016

The article stated:

"According to Apple Daily, Shanghai Disneyland has even fewer washrooms, with the visitor to washroom ratio being 4,500 to 1 instead of the more generous 1,500 to 1 at the Hong Kong Disneyland."

Is Shanghai that much smaller than Hong Kong Disney? I don't have any idea, but can't believe they wouldn't build enough....

Apple Daily is a tabloid newspaper with zero credibility. Wouldn't believe one word they print. Disney is not going to build a park with insufficient restrooms.

The problem is the culture and it's accepted behavior. We had an issue in our neighborhood with a visiting parent, trespassing and being inappropriate. The HOA had to go tell the daughter to get him under control, keep him in the house or the police would be involved.

I watched a special on the park, locally shot and interviews with many local young people. It was a good program I'll try to see if there is a link. Explained so much about the history of park, the area etc. They are def going to have issues ....... but one girl said something like she is hoping the western Disney park will help teach people how to behavior better. We'll see.

If a lack of restrooms is due to the budget cuts, does Shanghai thank themselves?

It will open tomorrow. How long it stays open is the question.

LOL.

It opens for 30 minutes, then closes for 2 weeks just so Disney can avoid another gaff like Rivers of Light.

We said it would open on 6/21 and it did, ha!

Wonder what a temp FEA would look like?

Maybe. But I just see videos of that new park, Tokyo and Hong Kong and I see rides and technologies that will not soon (if ever) make it to the US, en masse. Why would they even spend money to significantly upgrade the US parks if attendance doesn't drop off? It wouldn't be a good investment and I don't really expect them to do it. This goes especially for rides like Pirates or Pooh that are significantly improved overseas, above what the US has.

I just don't see Star Wars Land, Toys Land and Avatar  being enough to completely "catch up" to those other parks. For now, in one person's opinion, it feels like the US parks are second class citizens. And I don't see how that changes.

Perhaps not in extremely noticeable ways, but they have been updating their rides across the globe with new effects and technologies lately, especially at Disneyland and DL Paris. It's a matter of remaining fresh and connecting with new audiences more than competing with each other. They cannot rely on nostalgia forever. The question is when will those updates come to WDW.

You really love that tiered fastpass in Epcot, eh?

Can't put a value on the convenience of a figment fast pass...

Just a few posts back you claimed you only showed up because someone "poked the bear", and that your rants were aimed at the company as a whole while rarely going after anyone in particular.

Yet here you are, giving someone crap because they happen to find value in something you don't.

I'm glad I supplied the cannonballs for you today...

I'm a broken record...you're a broken record...the "fastpass is the greatest thing ever...doesn't matter what it's for"...is a broken record.

We all post in circles...like you ;)

I look occasionally at this thread...but don't say much. Then I get a tag in glib, low rent snark tone attempting to try "see...there!!!...new soarin film" and I just corrected the record.

My bad though...of course ;)

More importantly, though, is to what we should attribute Avatar's success to. 3D?

Nostalgia is an interesting point. If you read these forums, there is often a huge fit thrown whenever they replace old stuff with new stuff. Recently, this is happening with the Tower of Terror. It makes me wonder how anything gets approved.

I think it depends on what they are doing with the old stuff. Something like the ToT rumor where you completely throw out the theme of the current attraction and replace it with something that doesn't fit a drop ride whatsoever kind of grants a fit being thrown. Now if you look at things being done in Disneyland like the uodated to HM, Pan, Alice, those all made the attractions even better. Nobody has a problem with that.

skierpete was pretty clear in that he was just 'joshing you' as he put it.
For someone who loves to use sarcasm so much, you sure seem to have trouble understand humor when it's aimed at you.

I disagree with the broken record comparison. Look at my posts here over the past year and you'll find I take a variety of stances on a variety of topics. Yours haven't changed one bit.

I could write a lockedoutlogic automated response bot and no one here would be able to tell the difference.

Fair point. I think the ToT argument is still dubious because it's not like it was an original 1964 fair ride. I don't get the emotional tie to that one.

But I picture them ripping out Winnie the Pooh for the Tokyo version (which is way better), but people would throw a fit (this only imagined by me, not proven).

I can't see people throwing a fit if they replaced the current Winnie the Pooh with the tokyo version since that version is way better. As for ToT the DCA version is less superior to the DHS version. The DHS version is considered the best of them all and many think its one of the best Disney rides in the US. I don't think there is an attachment to the story of the ride but the ride has an overall theme that just makes sense and the ride system is incredible.

I would be bummed about a ToT reskin simply because I'm a twilight zone fan and I think it's cool to see it actually represented in the parks in some way.

But I also know that to most younger folks, GotG is going to b a lot more relevant and exciting.

So while I would miss the original, I'd understand why they made that decision and I wouldn't delude myself into thinking 'walt is rolling over in his grave' while the company destroys itself (or whatever other hyperbole of the week exists).

And that's what is missing from most of the rose colored glasses posts - any understanding of the other side's perspective.

I liked maelstrom. My daughter likes frozen. She'll care a lot more about that ride now than she would have before. I can go back and rewatch an old ride video if I ever want to remember how it was. My disappointment in the old ride going away is tempered by my excitement that Disney is actually spending money to improve something at Epcot. Apart from opening a brand new gate, it will always be a give & take scenario. And honestly, as we can see with Shanghai, even opening a new gate has consequences on other parks.

I really enjoyed the Jaws ride at Universal, but there is no doubt that Diagon Alley is a pretty neat experience as well. And from a money perspective, all those merch\food shops have got to be killing it compared to having a single ride sitting on all that space.

Life goes on. I find it best to look forward to the new experiences while appreciating the current ones over clinging to the status quo and stubbornly attacking any threat of change.

Nostalgia is a big marketing tool Disney uses over and over to promote their theme parks. We all have fond memories of the classic rides we loved when we first visited a Disney theme park. But there's something current management doesn't understand: it's really dangerous to have your guests coming back as adults and getting reactions such as ''I remember this ride being better'' or ''I guess as a child this was a lot more impressive than it actually is''

We may find charm in the classic attractions, but the newer generations are not easily impressed with cardboard cuts and UV lights. I think they've done a good job at Disneyland updating their rides while keeping them classic, so hopefully those changes will also make their way into the MK. BTMR is probably getting the new finale, so that's a good start.
