News Round Up 2016

I'm sure the regular, frequent posters in this thread could come up with a compromise to keep everyone happy. Like for example, if a news item on this thread generates five or more opinions or editorial comments there should be a gentleperson's agreement that the people who are the most opinionated should get a room, as it were, and take it to a dedicated thread.

It will be so much better for the casual news seekers and interested lurkers if we were to follow a simple rule of thumb like that. It will result in a more informative and concise news roundup and the topic-specific threads can be as speculative and opinionated as people want.

It could be five, three or two opinions expressed on a news item before getting booted to another thread. Let rteetz decide.

It's always hard to tell whether a new item will generate discussion or not. Somethings do something don't.

One forum I frequent (NeoGAF, for video game discussion) has a firm rule of "new thread for new news". I wish this board adopted a similar rule. It's so hard to browse for new info and separate major news from minor news

Right. You never know. But when a particular item generates enough comment that you think the thread is getting spammed and is becoming less of a news feed and more of a sounding board for people's editorial opinions and speculations, you can request that they take the discussion to an appropriately named, topic-specific thread. For example "Rogue One production delayed due to reshoots".

It's one thing for opinionated people to annoy each other with their opinions, but it's another thing to annoy the much larger of people who clicked on the thread for a concise roundup of the latest announcements and rumors. And I'm saying that as a sometime member of the opinionated minority.

But that's why this thread was started. General photo updates and small news items like a permit was filed or a food kiosk was added to Disney springs isn't something that needs its own thread.

I think I'll try to follow the rule of thumb that if a news item generates 5 or more comments it gets its own thread. I'm more than okay with 1-4 posts about a news item but when we get into big discussions like rogue one or skipper canteen that adds a lot of posts to this thread and news items tend to get lost.

Personally, I don't mind the way the thread is being handled; when people start discussing/debating something I'm not interested in, I know how to scroll. @rteetz made a change not to long ago to bold the news headlines, and I think that was working well. :thumbsup2 When news gets slow, I think that's when thread drift or general discussion starts to occur.

BUT, it never hurts to try something new... :goodvibes

I agree, I don't think there needs to be an arbitrary limit on the number of comments regarding any certain topic. @rteetz is good about moving us along when discussion becomes too much, and certain things definitely merit more than 5 comments. I enjoy the commentary and opinions in this thread at least as much as the news, and like @MommaBerd says, I know how to scroll if I don't care to read about a certain item.

I'm also in this camp.,.and historically, Ryan is really good about "suggesting" a dedicated thread.

2 Uni CM's we know went on Kong today.

Kinda thumbs down but, need to find out more. Hoping it's not too bad and just a personal preference thing.

I will say let the opinions flow. There has has been some multiple times I got tired of people discussing trivial things to my interest, but like some people intelligently said, I know how to scroll, while there has been some times I enjoyed the discussion people started and wanted to follow up on them. None of the times I got so annoyed I felt the urge to click reply, post a comment like "OMG STAPH!" and click post, so I think people are making a huge deal of it.

I think that this is great as long as the discussions and opinions can be constructive. Everyone has different likes and dislikes, and it's ok to weigh in with your opinion, but can we refrain from bashing and belittling?

wow, that's interesting to hear. That other review/tweet that @rteetz posted was very positive

Don't Panic.

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/06/03/rogue-one-reshoots

High level sources at Lucasfilm, speaking to EW anonymously, offered some details that place the schedule in context. (Official studio sources declined comment, saying they don’t respond to rumors.)

In what may reassure fans, reshoots were scheduled for the film before even a single scene was shot. It’s standard practice now for large-scale films to build in additional weeks of shooting so filmmakers can tweak a movie after the first assembly cut.

Those reshoots were originally planned for the spring, but were bumped to mid-summer to allow for extra time as director Gareth Edwards and the creative team decided what they wanted to alter. “The changes have everything to do with clarity and character development and all take place [as inserts] within scenes we’ve already shot,” said one source on the project.

In other words, the changes involve more intimate moments – not redoing entire battle sequences or plot lines. “It’s a lot of talking in cockpits,” as the insider described the new footage.

Yeah I haven't seen much negative. I have seen a lot of reviews say a good amount of it is like the tram tour in Hollywood but the Orlando version adds even more too it like the AA and the trucks instead of trams.

As promised, a quick recap of what I've heard of Kong:

--It's immersive, one friend saying 'more so than Harry Potter'
--It's spectacular. There is not one bad seat in those giant vehicles.
--Kong is HUGE, menacing, and does apparently breathe on people (sadly, not with banana breath this time).

Everything I've been told is positive. I've heard no downsides. The rain doesn't slow it up whatsoever as the ride essentially just doesn't take that outside loop when the weather is bad.

Also, walls are down around the area and there is a rumored soft opening tonight, but with that lovely tropical storm headed our way this may be in question. The rain plan may be good for normal storms but this is looking to be pretty bad. Stay safe, fellow Floridians.
