News Round Up 2016

Realizing that 24 hours of Disney didn't happen this year. Not that I could stay up that long.

Yep it's typically Memorial Day weekend. From an operational stand point they don't like it and with all the cuts its obvious why it didn't happen.

So you posted this after midnight-- was the booking opened then? I thought it was changed to 8 am?

booked the jungle book show this morning but almost missed it for next sunday.

I think you're confusing FP+ with an ADR. You can book ADR's beginning at 6:00 am EST on-line. You can book FP+ starting now at 7:00 am EST.

Looking at other threads on the Dis regarding the dining package, looks like another epic fail on the WDW website. People are reporting that available dates for the dining package are appearing then disappearing.

For booking FPs and what not, the app was working way better than the website.

We have two trips coming up, one in June - a combo WDW BWI (right where Ample Hills just opened!!) and Hilton Head DVC trip - and one in late July at the Poly. For the June trip, we nabbed a FP for the Jungle Book show, as well as a separate reservation for Tiffins/Nomad Lounge for dinner. We also have a FP for the night safari, and combined with all of the new entertainment offerings in Harambe and the Discovery Island Carnivale, as well as the Tree of Life Awakenings, I am going to be in heaven come June. DAK is my favorite of the 4 parks, but I can only imagine how much more beautiful it will be at night. Oh yes, we also scored a FP for the original Soarin' so that will be nice.

For the July trip, we scored FPs for the new Soarin' and Frozen Ever After. And I know that we have a reservation for STK for at least one of these trips. And July will also give us the new Star Wars Galactic Spectacular Nighttime Show at DHS.

These are going to be great summer trips for us. One thing that I have to say - and I know that many disagree but that is fine - is that we have only started visiting WDW since 2009. My wife and I never, ever went to WDW before this. We then went again in 2012, and then every year after that (sometimes multiple trips in a year). Each trip seems to be a little different, with something new to experience. This constant change has really been letting us enjoy our trips, and now with everything slowly changing year after year, each trip becomes more unique, with some signature or brand new experience to enjoy (you can get verbally stoned on the wdwmagic boards for admitting things like this although they still run a great site). I have been happy with the resort as a whole and I can't wait to see how things continue to change over the next 5 years leading up to the 50th anniversary.

I was able to book jungle book adr's at 5:15 this morning. We started checking every hour starting at midnight just in case they opened early and they did.

What Disney's websites never fail?..... (Sarcasm font needed)

I don't see this as a big deal. While it had it's fans, from the companies perspective it was a logistical nightmare, at least in DLR, didn't really boost income, and I seriously doubt the CMs liked it much either. To me it's better off being a very occasional special event. I might consider going to it if I was there anyways, but would never plan a special trip for it.

Exactly, I don't think many did plan around it but would just go because their trip happened to fall in that time frame.

It's harder and harder to plan around Disney special events. With certain times of year and ADRs requiring at least 6 month planning and Disney announcing things with tighter schedules you can't have your cake and eat it too. It's unfortunate but also a fact of Disney life.

It's possible. They just don't usually announce things on Fridays lets alone like five different things.

They were coming down to the wire on the stuff starting Memorial Day weekend - had to make announcements at least a week in advance of when the experiences would become available!

We planned trips around this event in both 2014 and 2015. I was disappointed they aren't having it this year but we'll still be there Memorial Day weekend due to the new AK experiences debuting.

Zootopia to be released in 3D on Blu-Ray in US.

why? I don't remember anything in this movie that would make it a 3D movie....but then, I have to say that the last several 3D movies I went to were not what I would call "3D necessary"...no things flying out at you, nothing hovering in front of anything else...not sure it was worth wearing the silly little viewing glasses.

It's immersion Vs gimmicks. Most people expect the 1970s slapstick (see Muppet 3D or Philharmagic). But the point of current gen 3D was to make the movie have depth - to be realistic. It is quite good at this and I really enjoy and prefer 3D movies - glasses and all.

I'm still waiting for Moana's first trailer. That's coming in like... 6 months, and they haven't promoted it at all. Also looking forward to Beauty and the Beast. Love Emma Watson as Belle.
Yeah it's really strange they haven't said much about Moana. Maybe they are expecting that since it's a Disney princess movie it will promote itself.

I guess, but considering it's being released between Harry Potter and Star Wars it's still surprising. It'd be kind of funny if Moana doesn't perform as good as Zootopia, considering that this entire time the fanbase has been over-hyping Moana while everyone thought Zootopia was going to be the B film no one was going to be talking about.
