News Round Up 2016

This then is where I will concede and agree with those that say DAK will need more attractions, but only after sunset. When Pandra opens in 2017, there will be more than enough to do during the day. However, I have always been concerned about the walking paths and Rafikis closing after dark. This will also include the train as well not being available.

I think that long, long term, they will need to expand the park again. There is still one more expansion pad available that is of a good size. I also don't mind how the areas in DAK are laid out. Each section is very expansive with impressive rides and the best theming in Orlando. I think that adding one more land would be great.

I think that South America would be great along side Asia and Africa. It could be neat to have some ancient site near an outpost town. Maybe they could add an old outpost that the SEA members used including Indiana Jones. That would be another great restaurant and bar that would have a built in audience from the old Adventurers Club. Maybe there could be another coaster based ride as well. And all excuse me as I catch myself armchair imagineering again.

The South America idea is awesome. It's equally adventurous as the other two but with a new unique flavor.

No no no, it's a bad idea. South American section is Brazilian bait. Last thing you need is to lure more of those ;)

Night of joy details released

Is it just me or do these prices make no sense? So they are saying you can buy what is basically $6 less than a normal one day ticket to MK and get the concert for free. Or better yet, for a little bit more than the price of a one day MK ticket, get two concert nights AND a waterpark day included. So why wouldn't I just buy that, go the MK one day, water park the next and skip out on the concerts. I'm still getting the waterpark for low low cost. I will assume that NoJ has a finite number of tickets they sell for capacity, so if anyone can go online and buy these tickets, then these tickets could run out because folks are just buying them for the park and waterpark day with no intention of going to the concert.

It sounds like it might be a Saturday park day only but then again, it really doesn't clarify that. If you can use in that same window as waterpark, this could be a $40+ savings per for a short 2 park visit with zero interest in the concerts. I'm thinking I must be missing something.

---------------------

The new venue has also brought new ticketing options, giving attendees the option to combine the concerts with theme park admission.

  • A single-night ticket for Friday’s concerts – $39 plus tax (in advance); $45 the day of the show (if available).
  • A ticket which would include a day at one of the four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks and the concerts for Saturday night – $99 plus tax (in advance); $114 plus tax the day of the show (if available).
  • A 2-Day ticket which includes both nights’ concerts, a day at one of the four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks$119 plus tax (in advance). Guests who purchase the 2-Day ticket before August 9, 2016 will also receive one (1) admission to their choice of Disney’s Blizzard Beach or Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon from September 6 – September 12, 2016. Group discounts also are available.
Tickets will go on sale in mid-April.

For a full expansion pad, I'd lean a bit more towards Australia.

Alternatively, I wonder if there are potential attraction spots in existing areas. DAK has a lot of shops, restaurants, and free space that could be converted into attractions IMHO.

Last year, those tickets were way cheaper...it's the way Disney fills up for that weekend of the month (which without NOJ would be dead, but with NOJ is packed). Not sure they'll still pack it with the large price increases...

Last year, 1 day was $65 (so $34 increase) and 2 day w/ waterpark was $115 (so $4 increase and last year, those 2 days got you 2 days of MK access, not this year's one, so another big increase)...now you had to wait til 4pm to show up, but then you got access to MK til after midnight, so almost a full fall day. And you could do the waterpark on your Saturday morning.

Pirates of the carribean opened on this day in 1967 at Disneyland.

In my opinion this is the ride that truly re-defined the concept of Disney magic and inmersiveness. Sure, there were some really ambitious and unique rides prior to pirates, but by 1967 amusement park standards just imagine riding something as ambitious and detailed as that ride for the very first time. Shows that even in his last couple of years Walt was still working on some really great projects.

Not comparing last year to this year because they are two completely different offerings. You can't compare them.

So last year you showed up to MK at 4 pm and event was 7pm-1am, much like a Halloween or Christmas Party. Music and Park time simultaneously. So the ticket prices reflected one or two party tickets. Completely in line with that type of event.

But now, you can go to the park all day long without spending any of that time listening to music and in the evening go to the concert. Buy the bigger ticket and you get to go to another concert on Friday night. That gives you two concerts or one with staying in MK open to close one day. The water park is open to use September 6 - 12 so basically a full day water park ticket, aka $60 value. Throw out the concerts, these are good ticket prices just for the park and water park, so basically the concerts are free. My point is, the price is so good that folks going that time frame for a short trip - who do not plan to go to the concerts - may just buy these tickets anyway due to the price savings.

The only question for me is - is the park day date flexible? or is it just Saturday?

I think it's the rare person who will find value in the Night of Joy package that isn't attending for Night of Joy. Multi-day park tickets are always a better deal regardless, and most people who aren't local or frequent visitors aren't going to do just a day on a trip. It might be a decent add on if you're already in town for a business meeting or to visit Universal, but I can't fathom anyone making a special trip just to get that "deal".

The few people that perceive the deal (like us) are far more likely to have AP or at least multiday tickets anyway.

Frozen 2 starts production soon

Can't say I agree with the writer of the article. I don't think Elsa should have a prince at all, but maybe that's just me. I wonder what type of story they are doing though. The Walt Disney Animation team is a lot stronger now than they were when they first released Frozen, so hopefully the story will also be better. I'm not here for a Cars 2 sized mess (making a film for the sake of expanding the franchise).
