News on Annual Passes

That is because you are both in Bucket #1.

If I am right, then annual passholders staying in resorts use the same bucket as ticketed guests — bucket#1. What we are talking about regarding passholders having a tougher time getting reservations is when passholders are in bucket #2 because they are not resort guests, ie locals, staying with local relatives or properties not in the bubble of Disney resorts or Disney good neighbor hotels that have Disnet bucket #1 privileges.
Ya'll are missing the point that I keep saying where my ticketed guests could NOT book park reservations when me as an AP holder could, using the resort reservation option. So it can't be the same bucket. If it was, it would be the same availability. But we did not. The AP holder, me, had more park opening options than the ticket holder

I've never tried to book without a resort stay so I have no idea how that works.

Not sure I understand why you didn't book your reservation with the resort stay to start with. You'd likely been able to book with them just fine if you had.

I've got no problems with modifying park reservations. never had. AP have always been able to modify theirs. Even with a resort stay. Not sure if you knew that.

We had the tickets long before the DVC waitlist came through. It just so happened when I upgraded my park hopper to AP (via phone), Magic Kingdom was already sold out for APs several days the week before Christmas.

As for modification, I was talking about booking off the resort calendar as an AP with a reservation and then turning around and canceling the reservation. That would technically put you back in a different pool and I would consider that risky for cancellation.

That’s normal though, you were using the resort pool/calendar at that point regardless of ticket type.

I have never seen a situation where there was AP availability (without a resort stay) and not day ticket availability (without a resort stay). I believe that’s what they’re trying to convey.

It's normal for an AP holder to find park reservations but ticket holders not to? Even when both are booked in the same resort stay? Why?

Sounds like a screw up on the reservation. Was it linked properly? Resort guests (AP or not) always get priority and rightfully so.

Yes it was linked properly. I book my reservations myself while signed in to my own MDE account. I don't use 3rd parties. There is nothing to link.
It was more than one reservation
It was on more than one date
It was with more than one guest
It was not even just me. Several others have had the same issue.
It was not a screw up. It's happened enough to determine it was functioning as it was intended at that time
Resort guests do get priority
Just not all together at once
There were different buckets at that time.

Is it possible for Florida AP holders to buy the Pixie Dust AP and then turn around a few weeks later and upgrade to one of the other passes? Or do they need to wait the year for their renewal to come up before they can change passes?

There's a lawsuit in California about this exact topic right now, after the APs were blocked every weekend using the park reservations.

My guess is the WDW availability is in response to that. There have been many times AP have access and cash don't, which I can't see being Mickey's plan. I don't expect it to last once the lawyers work it out.

WDW has not had that kind of bookings though. They don’t typically face the AP attendance percentages vs ticket percentage that DL does. Unless you’ve spent a lot of time trying to book reservations for mixed media trip like I have you’d probably never know it was a factor. It is not a recent occurrence. It’s been happening all along

Right. The lawsuit was filed right after CA bookings opened up. So, that's the timeframe which lines up with the good WDW availability. I wouldn't count on it going forward.

I would expect APs to have worse access once this is resolved, so Disney can correct the "unfavorable mix" of APs being cheap. Like me.

For Oct 31 in MK, for AP holders I had to use their regular AP park reservation bucket to get them access. The AP resort bucket is full for that day. No Theme park ticket availability either.

I was holding out hope for passes to come back before our November trip, but I decided to buy our regular tickets instead today.

Naturally, I wouldn't be surprised if passes come back next week. You're welcome everyone
If APs do come back before your trip, you can probably (hopefully) upgrade them to APs and just pay the difference.

You seem to have it some of it backwards. WDW opened before DL, nearly a year. I always found favorable AP bookings during that time. Once DL opened I didn't experience significant changes in availability. Anytime I came across a date where one of us couldn't get a reservation, it was the ticketed guests, not me. So I'm not sure what changed when CA bookings opened. From my personal experience, on avg, AP at WDW never have had "worse" access. I don't expect to have worse access because I've never felt as though I had worse access. But then APs are not cheap. They are pushing $2000 a year now. Well, I should clarify that's not cheap to me. Maybe it is to some.

Just renewed my kids' APs at the 60 day mark and was able to make Park Pass reservations for our trip in December using the "new" system (which for APs looks and feels like the system they introduced over a year ago). I used the Park Reservation for hotel guest with annual pass version and it made all of my park pass reservations, but none of them can be modified.

We're doing a day in September after our Wish cruise. I keep holding out hope that they'll bring them back on 9/1. :rotfl: I let ours expire in March and now have regrets. ;);)
