News and Developments for Future In-Person runDisney Events

I have been trying to find the window for POT, but I can't find it. I think I will plan a fall 10k and see how that goes. I am seriously considering sitting this year out and let all this flush out, but I would have major FOMO!

Wine and Dine is January 2019 to July 30th 2021.

Based on this, I would estimate the following:

Marathon Weekend to be January-March 2019 to October 2021
Princess Weekend to be January-March 2019 to November 2021

But these are guesses at this time.

I MISSED IT ALL!!!!!!! News dropped while I was working out , and then I had to go run errands. The timing was impeccable lol!

I'm so happy to see the races back, even with all the weird, new nuances. Bummed about no early registration as an AP, and a little worried about getting in, but whatever will be will be.

TA here - I just spoke to someone and was told that we CAN still add on bibs. She said that they had RunDisney training yesterday and that it should work like normal. I will call back throughout the day to see if I get the same answer.

So you mean you'll have an allotment to sell even if general registration is sold out or you just have the chance to include them with packages as long as they are still available for general registration?

As for the question of POT cut-offs.

I understand it is giving a lot of people stress right now, but I personally would not worry about it. I did not submit a PoT for my last race and still finished way before the balloon ladies. Sure there was a lot of weaving in and out of people at the start of the race, but it opened up after the first mile or two.

Since the character experiences have be flagged as changing, the amount of time you spend in lines may be different and may not even exist.

My very first half was MW in 2006 and I had to start in the last corral. The first few miles were a little rough weaving around people but by the time I got to MK I was past all that and still managed to get in just under 1:43. You aren't destined to get swept without a POT.

what does everyone think the POT changes for W&D mean for Dopey corral placement? I actually have a half on the books from March of this year at 1:49 so it looks very prescient to have done that for Wine and Dine but I'm worried it will just be random for Dopey participants

A couple tings I noticed poking around the refreshed website...

  • All W&D races starting at 5am.
  • "runDisney races will continue to feature on-course entertainment for our participants, however this may look different than past races."
  • "runDisney Kids Adventures—a new Disney Kids experience—is currently in development and will replace the runDisney Kids Races. Please check back closer to the event for more details. "

Also, a friendly reminder - especially for the new folks - that is entirely possible to have an excellent race experience with no POT submitted. I've successfully done so for years. :flower3:

I wonder if new POT requirements will be applied to MW and beyond or if they will change them. Suspect MW will be the same, but with more people being able to do live races, I would guess they will shorten the window again and possibly bump the times back up.

That is great for starting in the last corral. Really what I don't like is having to wait around any longer than I have to at the start. So earlier corrals are great because you can get through most of the course before the sun is too high and hot. I am happy that the POT is extended to 2019. I ran the princess that year so I hope I can include that time if I decide to run this year.

All of this being what it is, I am excited to be talking about in person races. I opted for a refund for the 2021 princess because doing a virtual challenge in upstate NY is February just was not what I wanted to pay for.

I'm going for the charity route. Too much stress, and I'm theoretically not even available on the 24th of August!
any idea when charities will have openings? and if you are willing to share which one can you message me?

Sometimes, however that is never a guarantee. Our allotment changes all the time so I'm not going to give a definite yes. I've had availability for sold out races before and other times I haven't.

For those people sweating the Balloon Ladies - I never even knew they existed until I was reading about them one time in a human interest feature in a newspaper (NYT? WaPo? I don’t remember). Anyway, grass grows faster than I slog along the course so I’m pretty sure you have to be literally standing still for a few hours (or in obvious medical distress), before you’re going to be swept. I’m only speaking for the W&D. Perhaps the Marathon is a bit stricter. After all, at some point, they do have to let the people at the finish line go home 😀

Resort reservation booked (Lagoon view at Poly) for Marathon Week!

Does anybody have tips for registration day, besides of course being ready to go at the time it opens? I will be registering two people for the 5k. What information do they typically ask for during registration?
This will be my first race as well - I found some helpful youtube videos that show screen captures etc and walk you through the whole process. Good luck!

As a general rule, assuming there is no injury during the race, for the most part, for the most part, the people that get swept are people that don't care and didn't really train at all. If you're stressing about it today, I'd put a nice chunk of money on you not getting swept. Now, if you want to try to get a good time and you're going to be randomly in the back, I understand that but Disney races shouldn't' really be looked at for your PR's.

No more day of race pick-up specifically called out. This used to be an unadvertised emergency situation thing, but now they're specifically saying it won't happen.
I can see them saying that. It used to be an unannounced courtesy for emergencies. People started posting about and using it as a given. Booking their flights to arrive after the expo. Went from a few people on lines to tons that they had to staff for. Another thing that people abused and ruined.

Absolutely! I searched every single charity available on the runDisney website, but none have updated their info for 2022. Guess they'll receive the information sometime in the coming weeks.

I think it would be less of an issue if they just kept the expo part open that was for packet pick up open longer, cause flight delays are a real issue esp right now flights are canceling or changing a lot right now.

So excited races are back! I was planning on MW, but I'm intrigued by this spring surprise weekend. I wonder if they'll have more details before MW registration opens? If so, I may change my plans...

I saw a couple update, well, with stub-code, as in they changed dates to 2022 and said they will be live soon. And after I emailed them, couple responded that they are waiting on info from runDisney on what their allotments would be before going live with sites. Also said a couple of weeks - but some implied it may be days before they go live if runDisney at least tells them the numbers they can guarantee.

At this point, I’m feeling pretty anxious about getting registered for Dopey. My normal safety blankets of the AP early registration opportunity and purchasing through a travel agent seem to be unavailable. At this point I’m considering trying for a W&D challenge bib, too, just to increase my opportunities for a race weekend.
