The existing Treehouse Villas are going to be torn down and replaced with a new style villa in accordance with the conservation guidelines in effect for the surrounding land and water areas.

The roadways and pool area will not be affected.

The new treehouses look extremely similar on the outside to the old ones but they have a smaller foot-print on the ground. They are still elevated etc.

While there is no official word from Disney to indicate the new Treehouses will be rented to the public - that is the rumor! How exciting is that..!!!??

From the permit request by Disney...

Disney is proposing to dismantle and remove the existing "Treehouse" units and replace them with new structures. ... The new "Treehouse" structures will have a minimum elevation of... (bla bla bla) No modification is proposed for roadway alignment, only resurfacing and there is no increase or expansion planned for the pool .. or clubhouse area.

Woohoo! I'm very excited about this.

That would be great! I've always wanted to stay there, now maybe I can.

I wondered what was up. We were just in WDW a week ago and stayed at SSR. We drove past the entrance of the Treehouse Villas daily and noticed that there were workers going in and out and just what seemed to be a lot of activity there. At night they were all lit up. Interesting.... :)

Hmmm, interesting. :)

Where will all the international students stay if these are torn down??

I have mixed feelings. While it would be neat if they rebuilt and were rented to the public.......It's kind of sad the old ones are being torn down. This was one of my kids favorite places to stay.

The old ones are being torn down (according to the permit) but ALL 60 will be rebuilt!!! And as I noted, they look remarkably similar .. I suspect the new ones will be more energy efficient and better construction.

The international CM's have been or will be moved to the same dorms as North American CP students in other parts of the property.

CG...Please keep us posted. Any dates for completion?

I don't know to be honest.. the permit didn't really say.

I remember seeing them. Could you refresh our memories about them? Their size, location, price range etc? By the time I first went to Disney I think they were closed.

How do you know they are going to look the same CG? Have you seen something we all haven't?

Ok.. lots to type here..

It appears from a close reading of the application that the current structures are in violation of something to do with the flood plain and water table.. that means they have to be rebuilt to provide..

"... a minimum finished floor elevation 94.45 NGVD to meet the requirements of the Reedy Creek Improvement District Land Development Regulation which requires a minimum FFE at 1 .O' above the 100 year - 3 day peak stage...

First here's a floorplan of the 'new' proposed Treehouse Villas:

I love to read Disney history. If anyone wants to post their experiences at the Disney Village Resort in the seventies and eighties, we'd love to read. It seemed pretty unique.

Yes.. this part of the permit application..

Basically the ground floor 'footprint' is much smaller in the new design than in the old design. Note the size of "exterior wall of structure at ground level"

:)

What was the price to stay at the Treehouses when they were open? Were they on par with a moderate or deluxe?

Well .. I don't know historically.

I'd guess that they'd be a bit more than the current FW cabins.. (depending on how 'fancy' they get with the interior..)

They appear to sleep 6 or 8 .. again, depending on the furniture. If that 'sofa' in the living room pulls out, they could sleep 8. The floor diagrams show three beds.

Does anyone have photos of the interiors? I would love to show DH....TIA
