Snyder Wants to Take Everyone for a Ride
Being owner of the Washington Redskins hasnt always been a joy ride for Dan Snyder. While he is making plenty of money and has turned the team into the leagues most valuable franchise, Snyder himself often seems out of sorts, hardly as accessible or fun-loving as his predecessor, Jack Kent Cooke.
Snyder now has his sights on gaining control of the Six Flags theme parks. Six Flags is based in Oklahoma City and operates 31 parks, one of which, Six Flags America, is not far from FedEx Field in Landover.
Snyder began accumulating shares in Six Flags after Bill Gates expressed disappointment in how the company was performing. Gates has 11H percent of Six Flags shares, Snyder now close to 9 percent.
Buying his way onto the board of Six Flags would put Snyder in a position to become an ally of Gatess.
Snyders career has been marked by an ability to befriend older mentors such as real-estate and publishing executive Mort Zuckerman. Becoming an Gates ally would be a big plus.
Owning Six Flags America in Largo also would create some synergy for Snyder, who might be able to use the Six Flags parking lot for Redskins games.
And no one could doubt Snyders ability to market various rides, like getting Federal Express sponsorship of a new bumper-trucks ride.
