We are planning a trip to CA this summer and would like to spend about 10-12 days including a visit to Disney and a trip up the coast. We are wondering if Newport (a house near the beach) might be a good base point to see some of the Southern CA sights before heading north. Thoughts?

Absolutely! We love Newport and stay there nearly every year. It's a perfect home base in Southern California and there are TONS of summer rentals, but you'll need to book early. This year, we'll spend a week on Balboa Island, two nights at GCH for DL and then a week on the Newport peninsula. We'll return to DL for the day to run the DL 10K! Can't say enough about Newport - here's a thread I started last year with lots of Newport info and photos: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2895078

I agree with PixarMom. Newport Beach is a great area.

Yes, it's an easy place to work from - we live here and it is a simple and straight shot down Harbor Blvd with everything available to you. It is access to all points north and south as well. Good luck and welcome to SoCal:cool1:
