Newport Bay 4* or 3*

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help. I am nearly 100% sure that when I was planning our trip to Disneyland Paris back in January that the Disneyland Website had the Newport Bay rated as 4 keys and was listed below the Disneyland Hotel (5 keys) and above the New York. Now, having just returned from a rather disappointing stay at the Newport Bay I checked the website and now the New York is listed as the 4 key rating and Newport Bay 3!!

This was intented to be a dream trip and would not have risked it on a 3 star hotel such as the Newport Bay, which was the worst and smelliest hotel I have ever stayed in, but thats another story!

Any help would be great, when did this downgrade occur?

A fairly long while ago I think - certainly over the last 2 or 3 years I've always considered the Sequoia Lodge and Newport Bay Clubs to be of similar standard (and the website prices tend to support that), with the Hotel New York being the 4 star hotel onsite, and the DLH (castle club only) being the 5 star hotel.

From what I remember as long as we have been going to Disneyland (since 2006) the Newport bay has always been a lower star than the New York, sorry to hear you haven't had a great time

I *think* they're classing SF above HChy since the refurb, its definitely listed before HChy in the new brochure I looked at online, if thats any indicator of rank.
I would now class SQL above NPB since the refurb there too but my understanding would also be DLH, HNY, NPB and SQL on a par followed by SF and HChy also on a par.
Sorry to hear your trip wasn't as good as it could have been OP. Did you email a letter of complaint to DLP?

Hi All,

Many thanks for your replies, this was really appreciated I have since found the website that I originally accessed it was disneyholidays, still sure it was ranked above on this particular site previously, as sure NY was cheaper, but possibly could of had a mad moment (it happens!) and prob got this wrong somewhere along the line. A valuable lesson learnt! I shall do my research next time. Checked out all our other hotels on route to Disneyland and back but trusted all Disney hotels to be of a good standard, oh how wrong I was.

Apparently Euro 65 million being spent on refurb, this is so needed. Bathroom needed cleaning as dried blood up back of bathroom door, tile grout black, bath grey and bath panel hanging off, light bulbs out...and then there's the smell! Floor we stayed on apparently used to be smoking until couple of years ago, but smell of 18 years of stale cigarette, cigar smoke and sweat really disgusting. Concierge was really grumpy too when I complained. 3 stars or not I believe a hotel should be clean and pleasant. I will be making my feelings known to customer complaints dept.

Been to Walt Disney World Orlando 5 times, will be saving up to go there in couple of years hopefully. Self-catering!

DLH & HNY 4*

SL & NPB 3* (But I always avoided NPB due to reviews online)

HC & SF 2*

It's always been 3* since we've been going to DLP (so definitely since 2005), I think the reason it comes above Sequoia Lodge in the listings is because you can have room service if you're staying Admiral's Floor although most people seem to prefer Sequoia Lodge.

Really sorry you had a disappointing stay, especially as we had such a fantastic time there last summer.

Oh no! Now you've all got me really worried about staying here . we are going in September for my daughter's 21st and cousins 60th and really wanted to make it a special trip . If NPB isn't even as nice as the SL then we have really picked the wrong hotel, I would rather stay at the Cheyenne than at SL again ..............I think I need to seriously consider whether we could afford to upgrade to the DLH [except my cousin loves the look of NPB] or look at the Cheyenne ????

NPB is very impressive looking. But it suffers from having far too many rooms (&guests) compared to public areas.

The twice we've been in its been so crowded.

Have you considered HNY?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not too keen on the theming of HNY...bit like Sequoia lodge, just doesn't really appeal to me . Far prefer the cheyenne and DLH. My cousin even prefers the public areas of NPB to DLH which is why we have booked to go there, but all these poor reviews of the rooms is making me really quite nervous. Thankfully it shouldn't be too busy when we go so hopefully not too many guests . My main concern is how run down the rooms are? We are Admiral's Floor but maybe that will have no guarantee that the rooms are any better?

We've stayed at SL but went for NPB this time because of the room service. Only after then did I read Tripadvisor! Obviously you think its automatically a safe option because it is Disney.

I agree, if your room is not satisfactory let them know and do not give up until its sorted. Been home a couple of days now and in hindsight really wish I'd pushed to change rooms or hotel. Made complaint on having seen our room, but then didn't want to ruin pricey 'dream' hol by moaning about it all the time!

It does look impressive from the outside, and thought it looked liked a good hotel, but when your there and see it up close it does look tired. I'm always using tripadvisor to look up our hotels, but as I said for this one I didn't, it's Disney!

Admirals floor may be better. At least you have room service available, other rooms offer no services at all.

Just to be aware that when you check in you may be given a voucher to have your breakfast in Disneyland Park (it was suggested this was because people like to visit the park early for the magic hours, turns out that due to one restaurant being closed and the other one having half the restaurant roped off, the hotel only had limited capacity for guests to have breakfast in hotel) Not good with two small hungry children to have to walk from NPB to the end of Main Street just to have breakfast. Was kind of caught out on that one and didn't question it at check in as we'd only just arrived and were unfamiliar with DLP as had only ever been to Orlando.

Don't want to worry any prospective NPB guests, but just to say this is a true reflection of our particular experience. Good luck and don't take any rubbish from NPB staff if your not happy

Yes - you really should do this. If I check into any hotel and the room is not up to standard I ask to me moved to another room. Whether it be a Travelodge, Hilton, Disney or Holiday Inn.

Always ask to be moved to another room and if no rooms are available ask to be moved to another hotel!
NPB is due to have a huge refurbishment programme to start on it soon, which it really does need.

I think a lot of people find NPB simply too big, it is a massive hotel and a long walk down endless corridors to your room can't be much fun with tired little ones. You won't have this problem with AF rooms as they're all in the central area so never far from the lift. SL doesn't do it for me either, I find it too dark and claustrophobic although we have decided we will stay there one day as we want to be able to say we've stayed in all the hotels!

We are Admiral's Floor but maybe that will have no guarantee that the rooms are any better?

I think the majority of complaints re the rooms do seem to refer to standard rooms, I think the AF rooms are perhaps not so tired. Our room at NPB last summer was actually in better shape than our room at DLH the year before. Hopefully you're worrying for nothing but I second what the others say and if you're not satisfied with your room then let them know ASAP. Sometimes it's something they can get housekeeping/maintenance in to deal with, if not ask to be moved to another room.

There were bad reports from the NPB when we stayed there is 2006 - we had a fantastic stay, again we were on the Admiral's Floor, maybe it does make a big difference.
