About two weeks ago, we spent an afternoon at the Newport Aquarium. Other the the outside photos, I shot only with the 50mm f/1.8, usually at ISO 1600...sometimes, if lucky, ISO 800. The noise was not unbearable, but I did run the shots through the free version of Noiseware.

I know better aquarium photo have been posted here, but I thought I would share mine all the same.

I think these are really great. I did the London Aquarium with my son a few weeks ago and came back with virtually nothing worth salvaging!

My mistake was way going too low on the ISO - I played too safe and kept it at 200 whereas I should have gone much higher. The result was a too slow shutter speed and lots of blurry fish! Like you, I used only my 50mm f/1.8, (set to Av mode).

You have some real crackers there - I love the close up of the shark. They had the same species at London but I never got anything that close. Excellent job!

Those are some nice shots. I always enjoy seeing the 50mm f/1.8 at work. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing - I certainly enjoyed them, and that's as good of a view of a shark as I care to get! I am still getting acquainted with digital terms like noise, but as I equate it with grain, looks like you came out quite good, and that fifty served you well.

Excellent shots! As a former volunteer at the Aquarium in New Orleans, I truly appreciate seeing what other facilities have to offer.
Thanks for posting!

We used to live in Louisville and visited that aquarium a few times. It is my favorite one. The first time we went there, it was the only thing there. It amazed us to see how much had grown up around it when we went back a year and a half ago. I only had my S1 IS then, but still got some decent shots.

Yes, the area has really developed. The aquarium isn't quite big enough to spend the whole day, but when you do a little shopping and plan for dinner at Johnny Rockets, it makes for a nice day trip.

Thanks, everyone for the kind words. :cloud9: Puts me on :cloud9:.

love the shark and the patty duke fish( for all you "youngsters", on the ancient black and white patty duke show they used mirrors to make her twins, guess when you gotta explain you should have forgotten it anyway:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: )
how far from Cincinnati is it?

Literally across the river. It is pretty much across from the stadium if I remember correctly. You have to go over the bridge in Covington though and drive over to Newport.

I was thinking of "Deb" and her sister "Flo" from Finding Nemo. :fish: :fish:

Some very nice captures:thumbsup2 , especially the sharks and sea turtle, which I have a real problem catching without motion blur.
