Newlyweds Recommendation

So I thought I asked this question to you guys before, but I can't seem to find it in my subscriptions anywhere.

My DS is getting married in May. He and his new wife will be going to WDW with us in June to celebrate their honeymoon. DH and I would like to make a reservation and pay for them to have a nice TS dinner while they are there. We usually only eat QS meals, so I am very unfamiliar with the upscale restaurants.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend a place to eat that would be romantic and maybe would make some sort of a "big deal" of them being newlyweds. DS loves steak, but his fiance is not a real big steak eater, so I would like something that has other items as well. I believe they both love italian foods. I would really appreciate the experts help!!

California Grill would be nice. That way they could stay or go back there at night to watch the fireworks display...romantic. Also, I know it might not be considered romantic necessarily but I think that Cinderella's Royal Table would be really nice and a nice memory for them. On a side note, we honeymooned in Disney in May 1994 and would have loved, loved, loved for anyone to make a gesture like what you are trying to do. It's very thoughtful of you

Narcoosee's, Criticos, Victoria & Alberts are all very upscale and very romantic.

Everyone's version of romantic is different. For me, quiet and adult are important so that eliminates every place on the dining plan, especially Ca Grill and Narcoosees which are the 2 noisiest signatures.

Nothing is better than Victoria & Alberts. Next I'd go with Il Mulino at the Swan. It's Italian and not on the plan, very good food and it's quiet and romantic.

If they like fish and seafood, bluezoo at the Dolphin is my favorite restaurant besides V&A.

Another option is private dining at GF. You eat on a balcony at the resort with a private butler. We did Citricos menu but you could possibly do Narcoosees menu also; Citricos has much better food.

I find Jiko at AKL to be incredibly romantic! I think it's one of the most beautiful restaurants on property. Our service has always been stellar and the food is flavorful and unique. AKL is just gorgeous at night and we always make it a point to stroll around after dinner.

V&A if you really want to go all out; that'd be lovely.

I've never been to Cali Grill, but it's on our list, and what I'd say if V&A is out of budget. Can't confirm or deny the noise level there, but I always thought it would be nice to eat late and watch the fireworks from there.

Another V&A vote...we went the day after our wedding a few years ago, and made a resolution to return every other year to celebrate...it can't be beat. The other options I would consider have also been mentioned, but none will compare to V&A...

DH and I did California Grill on our honeymoon; it's now a visit every trip place for us.

We also very much enjoyed Jiko and Narcoosee. I'd like to do Jiko again, but DH is not a very adventurous eater. But, I'd suggest any of those 3 for a honeymoon dinner.

We've both said we'd love to do V&A, but we can't justify the price.

Of course everyone's definition of 'romantic' will differ somewhat, but I agree with a PP who equates it with 'adult' and 'quiet'. This can be hard to find at WDW. Having a later ADR time can help, but not always.

While Cali Grill is a signature, I refuse any longer to call it romantic. We do eat there, but not for a quiet and intimate dinner. It IS noisy- a combination of close tables, general acoustics, and an awful lot of kids. Not saying this is bad, just that it is what it is.

V&As is the absolute best there is at WDW, but you pay a premium for it. Is it worth it? I think so, but for others it is just too far outside their budget.

As far as WDW resort restaurants go: I'd pick a place outside the parks. CRT may be a fun meal, but it is neither quiet nor romantic, and the food quality is certainly not the reason for the cost of the meal.

So for 'adult', quiet places with good quality food, I'd take a closer look at restaurants already mentioned: Citricos, Jiko, Il Mulino, and bluezoo.

And you can make a note on the ADR if the meal is a celebration. If you tell them that they are celebrating their honeymoon, they may receive personalized menus, and perhaps a free cupcake at dessert. This was done for my daughter and her DH when they celebrated their anniversary at Citricos last year.

When making your decision, keep in mind that many people on the DIS use DDP. Therefore, you're definitely going to get many more recommendations for DDP signatures than the others. All that means is these restaurants are the ones more people here have tried. Many of them haven't tried the non-DDP restaurants. I'm not saying their opinion is wrong. They're just recommending what they have tried. We can only recommend what we know. Odds are restaurants that accept DDP will have more families with small kids. That doesn't usually equate to a romantic atmosphere. Like a couple of the PPs, I wouldn't consider booking a restaurant that accepts DDP for a truly romantic meal. Le Bistro may be an exception, but we haven't tried it since they started accepting DDP on 1/1. It does depend on what their idea of romantic is. It may not be the same as mine. Regardless, if you decide to go with a restaurant that accepts DDP make the ADR as late as possible.

DH and I honeymooned at WDW and we had two unforgettable celebrations as Narccoossee's and California Grill. We did both as let ressies so that we could watch the fireworks. People always complain about the noise levels in there restaurants but we never have a problem with it since we are so busy being together. (especially as newly weds) We still go back to these 2 for all of our trips because it meant a lot to us and we really enjoy the food. We actually saw a proposal at Narccoossee's during our honeymoon (right after the fireworks) and it was just so sweet and the staff goes out of their way to say congrats on any celebration.

I have a question for you guys. Is California Grill the only place that you can watch fireworks? My DS loves Wishes. That is favorite thing to see while there. I think he would love to be able to watch the fireworks while eating. It might be a special memory for the two of them.

Thought I would chime in with my .02 cents:

If money is NOT AN OBJECT: and you want to give them the EXPERIENCE of a LIFETIME: Then go with Victoria and Alberts: HANDS DOWN the best experience for dining in Disney, and to be honest the best dining experience my wife and I have EVER had.......It is beyond good.....you have multiple waiters, harp player live, personalized menus....no kids!!!...the only dining option with NO KIDS at Disney....really I dont think anyone could argue that it is not the best option hands down. I have only eaten in the "cheaper room" (I forget the name) but it was $125 per person (no alcohol on that pricing but you can add wine option)---Well worth the money in my opinion

Beyond that you will get personal preference....but really its Victoria and Alberts at #1 and nothing even close

I would say Narcoosses at GF is my 2nd choice. I think Cali Grill is OVERRATED JIMO.....Citricos is great as well...

Why Narcoossees? Not really sure, but I love the food there and a special tip: Request a table near the windows at sunset OR during fireworks......you are probably looking at $100-$150 total for that experience JIMO

But once again, its their honeymoon....treat them to something they probably wouldnt do by themseleves, and thats Victoria and Alberts

If you can spend a LOT of money you can do a private fireworks cruise with private dining or after dinner.
