My daughter just severely sprained her knee and we are headed to the parks in 2 weeks. I might have to rent a wheelchair if she is still on crutches then. Is this going to be a big problem? Not sure how to go about it.

We've rented at Disneyland.
But when we've needed a wheelchair, we've bought one at Costco for less than $100, airlines accommodate traveling with these's very easily. You can take them all the way to loading onto the airline. Then it's there waiting for you as you get off. You'll also then have it when you leave the parks, as in to go to DTD and to your hotel.
Renting at DL is easy enough, but alittle time consuming when we did it.
We've also rented from Deckerts. They deliver and pickup from your hotel, so you have the advantage of having it when leaving the parks.

If you are going to be there for more than two days, I would rent one off site from Deckert's. It will be cheaper. They will deliver and pick up from your hotel. Plus if you rent from Disney, she will have to hobble from your hotel to the rental spot each day and you can't take the ones from Disney into Downtown Disney, only between the two parks.

Things I didn't think about, thank you so much for the advice. Had no idea about DTD, that could have been awful!
That's what I love about the Disboards!

Deckerts (714) 542-5607

There are others in the Anaheim area that deliver to hotels, also.
We've just always used Deckerts and have been happy with their service.

Oh my, that is so sad - I always dread something like this happening right before a trip. My daughter is a dancer so she is always one wrong step away from an injury.

I hope there is some improvement over the next two weeks and that she is still able to really enjoy her visit!! :goodvibes

Thanks so much everyone! She is a trooper, we are trying everything, I think she is scared though. I am sure once she gets her new set of ears she will have a big smile regardless.

A couple of years ago, I fell and sprained my ankle badly in Vegas on the way down to Disneyland. Rented a wheelchair from a local home-health/oxygen supply place. They delivered it to the hotel, and picked it up when we were ready to go home. They billed my insurance and everything. I was very glad to be able to take it back and forth to the hotel...no way I could have walked that far! It was much cheaper than renting inside the park, too. As a matter of fact, it was kind cool to have a lap to carry everyone's stuff. LOL!
I would definitely get the wheelchair instead of relying on crutches. I think crutches would be a pain, literally, after the first hour or two.
(This was before the more stringent ADA regs at the park...see if you can get a doctor's note to get an ADA pass. Especially if you go with the crutches. I aplogize if I am calling the ADA pass by the wrong name. No offense meant to anyone!)

Crutches all day would be really hard, it is tough enough during a regular day :). I also mean absolutely no disrespect (am a nurse actually), we can easily get a dr note. Do you have to have one to bring the crutches or a wheelchair? Sorry to sound dense, have never had to worry about this at Dis before thank goodness.

You do not need a doctor's note for anything. Disney cannot accept a doctor's note. If you have a wheelchair or ecv you just go to the rides and they will give you instructions (you will get a return time for most rides and then come back and you go through the exit).

If you choose to only use the crutches, then you will have to go to City Hall and they will ask what kind of accommodations you need and you tell them you can't wait in long lines or climb stairs, etc...and they will give you a DAS pass. You then take that pass to a kiosk to get return times. You can only have one return time at a time.

Hope this helps!

This does help, thank you! We are hitting physio hard so hopefully all we will need is a good brace. It would be sad to miss all the cool things to see in line :)
