My dd (5) was dx with Asperger's. I honestly expected HFA since she has a speech delay (but it's due to birth injury). She was dx 18 months ago as SPD.
I need some good books to read and to get my family members to read to help them understand her. My family is amazing and understanding, but dh's is old school and says she's defiant and stupid. She's very intelligent and has some amazing abilities for a 5 yr old, but is delayed in some areas.
I know I'll need more support, I'm just trying to get my thoughts together and this is the best place I know to start. I've lurked here for a year or so on and off.
Her current IEP has her getting speech therapy 2 times weekly and a consult with an OT. She is a PreK program and has been since feb. It took 15 months for her IEP. She goes to private OT weekly, sees a psychologist/psychiatrist (hubby/wife that we love), and goes to a specialty institute that concentrates on neurologic issues. I have here on a wait list for Play Therapy there. She's also on 2 waiting list for a ASD school and a developmental specialist (both are 1 yr plus)
I would love suggestions and advice and any info. Her Drs want us to go gluten free, but she has food allergies and that will severely limit her diet.
I apologize for any typos or unorganized thoughts. This is the first few mins I've had in a week
Thanks!!
