Newly Dairy Free - Goofy's Candy Co?

We just found out that DD8 is lactose intolerant. We are also vegetarian (we eat eggs and dairy, but now DD can't have dairy). I have been scouring menus trying to decide where the best places to eat for her are, although the dairy-free, vegetarian kid's picks seem nonexistant at CS locations. Not sure if I will have to pay OOP for an adult choice for her (we have the dining plan).

One main question I can't seem to find the answer to is whether or not Goofy's Candy Co in DTD has dairy-free options for kids making their own treats. We've never been there before, and my kids are really looking forward to decorating their own cookie, pretzel, etc. Can anyone give me any input, in general and especially on Goofy's? Thanks so much!

I was very rudely told by a manager at Goofy's candy that "nothing was safe" for dairy free.

So now we take our business right around the corner to Babycakes

You do know you kids won't actually be decorating the cookies right? You fill out the order sheet and the CM does the dipping and the sprinkles. When your order is ready the CM hands it to you in a box.

I know. They were excited that they got to choose the cookie/pretzel, toppings, etc.

I told DD about Babycakes, and I think we will go there instead (I am actually over the moon about this place since we are veggie). I framed it more about being vegetarian, and not having to read everything to see if it contains gelatin and so forth instead of making it about missing out b/c she can't have dairy, which is new to her. She was actually excited about Babycakes. I'm hoping DS6 doesn't notice or care; I know DS3 won't.

If you have the DDP you will be in great shape because they will just use her credit even if she ends up needing adult food to meet her allergy needs otherwise you'd pay for what you get. Lots of the allergy safe products are also gluten free but they do carry Amy's pizza in a dairy free version and enerG rolls (though probably won't need a bun unless the veggie burgers are dairy free--I'm thinking they are though as my vegan friend ate them but she doesn't always check when she really has no other options and something seems vegan

Goofy's Candy Kitchen doesn't serve food. All they have is candy.

Huh??? Yes, clearly the candy store just sells candy and treats BUT the original
poster was also asking about QS for kids with allergies and the DDP.

I understand what the Op asked. I replied to your post that seemed to imply Goofy's served food.

The only place mentioned was Goofy's and I wanted to clarify they don't sell food. (Years ago Goofy's Grill at DTD DID sell food-but that counter service place is long gone).

Sounds like Goofy's would def. be too frustrating to figure out. I think we will def. stick with Babycakes, which is also awesome for us being vegetarians. I didn't know Disney had Amy's (love Amy's)! I am going to do a lot more research before we go!

The Manager I met at Babycakes is vegan, and reallllly nice! It was wonderful for my DD to be able to pick something out of the glass case like "everyone else".

Pizza Planet at the Studios has served Amy's Pizza and many counter service locations serve allergy free chicken. You may want to contact special diets for the current lists as items do change often.

I didn't know Disney had Amy's (love Amy's)! I am going to do a lot more research before we go!

If you email special diets at WDW they send you a pretty decent list of which counter service places carry the allergy safe products. There is at least 1 in each park and then most of the resort CS places carry some. The list isn't perfect though. If there are particular items you are really counting on then you should fax the form back to special diets to make sure they have the items stocked while you are there. I also found in talking to various chefs that they often have other items not even listed. Like at Port Orleans Riverside they carry the Amy's Organic Marinara but it's kept in the back and you have to request it by name. You also will usually have to wait longer while they specially prepare the special foods--it's often about 20 minutes wait.

There are prepackaged candies and icee type drinks at Goofy's but you may not want to even go in there and open that can of worms. I'm not sure if the icees are dairy free but they look like total un-natural chemical waste so quite possibly safe The prepackaged candies are available in just about any WDW store if you are interested in any of those. .

I emailed special diets. They sent me the lists of places that carry dairy free foods, and I emailed our ADRs back to them on the form they sent, so we are about all set!

I don't know if Goofy's offers anything dairy free, but it might be worth pointing out that cross contamination may not be as big an issue for you, so maybe there are options (perhaps a pretzel, with dark choc, and oreo crumbs for example). I don't know how careful you are about cross-contamination and I definitely don't mean to dismiss the seriousness of lactose intolerance, but maybe you don't have to write Goofy's off as quickly as those of us risking life threatening allergic reactions to dairy.

DD's intolerance isn't life-threatening but def. severe. But we don't have to worry about cross-contamination. There are prob some options she can have, but she would of course want the ones she can't have!
