Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

Welcome Elizabeth Nicole!
And congratulations Marshay!!!!

Wow... talk about speedy... I guess that means no epidural?

Good to hear your update! How is the pumping going? Do you have a hospital grade pump? If you think you may be pumping for the long haul, you want to get yourself a hospital grade pump, probably a rental, as they are several hundred bucks to purchase. I exclusively pumped for my son for 2 weeks shy of 2 years, so if you need any help or tips, just give a shoutout!

When the babies are older and your supply is well established, you should be able to drop the overnight pumps. I remember how I did it too. I pumped before bed & then again whenever my b00bs woke me. :rotfl: Eventually you should be able to make it to the morning. First AM pump was always *a lot* of milk.
pumping is going really well.. I have the hospital ine I am using right now, and it is fantastic. I have it on a grant, because the LC was worried about my milk supply. I only have it for another week and a half or so, so I am a little bummed about that. I hope I can come up with the money to keep it. I also have a pump in style, but it just doesnt work nearly as well.
No problem, I feel like an old pumping pro. By contrast though, I'm a total BF newbie. My son never did learn to BF, looking back it's really not surprising. He had oral motor coordination issues that made any kind of feeding difficult for more than 2 years. I've already spoken w/ a LLL Leader that is in my local MOMS Club & will probably go to at least a couple of meetings before the babies come to meet some women & hopefully line up some help if I have difficulty with latch or anything in the beginning.

I'm hoping that these two aren't so early that they have difficulty nursing & just take to it like babies are supposed to! The biggest hurdle to pumping is getting the right pump, for exclusive pumpers I always reccomend a hospital grade rental pump. For pumpers that will continue to nurse p/t, the Medela Pump in Style (PIS) line or the Ameda Purely Yours are the best out there. Some women manage with a hand pump, but I can't imagine doing that if you'll be pumping on any kind or regular basis. For a mom that primarily nurses, but may need the random occassional bottle for when she'll be out on a given date, a hand pump will suffice.
My 36 weekers are HORRID nursers. Vincent doesnt get it AT ALL, and Jasmine sucks and sucks... But doesnt get any milk!! I am trying them at every feeding for 5 minutes each.. Next week I am going to push them harder on nursing. I hope they catch on.

Ugh.. I hope Im making sense. My brain is mushy this afternoon.. :lmao:
Baby Elizabeth Nicole was born quite unexpectedly on Thursday, March 12th at 4:38am (water broke, or rather trickled at 2:25am -- so we are talking quick!)

There was no time for c-section, epidural or drugs...I got to the hospital and was already 9cm dilated and near Rim. Took 3 nurses to triple-check b/c they didn't believe it could go that quickly ... but Surprise!

Baby and I are fine. I'll post more with photo later but she is napping and I should be too.

Congrats!!! :cool1:

I would try & keep the hospital grade, especially if your little ones aren't nursing effectively yet. Some things I've heard to help weak nursers, try "priming" your supply, by pumping for a few minutes *before* you try to latch them. That way the baby doesn't have to start the letdown, just maintain it. Also massaging the milk down your breast, while your little one is latched & nursing. Have you been talking to a lactation consultant?

Many thanks for the congratulations!

So sweet! Gosh, I can't believe I'll be doing that in 9 wks! I have to get some work done around my house, get some diapers, some clothes, pack a bag.......:scared1:

Marshay,

Congratulations and Welcome to the World, Elizabeth!!!

The baby is beautiful as are you and the family! Enjoy!

I think all these new babies has finally kicked in my nesting instinct! We are on spring break this week, and while I'm still not feeling good, I feel better than I have in days. So I'm cleaning out the kitchen cabinets this morning. I have one cabinet cleaned out for just baby stuff. Maybe I can summon enough energy to do the rest of the house before the end of the week.

Correct -- no epidural, no drugs, no nothing ... let me tell you, I do not recommend it!! :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: Thankfully it was fast. I'd rather have the drugs! (My DD3 was a c-section so I didn't feel a thing...)

Congrats! Wow, what a fast labor! Maybe it was the full moon!!!

I think that had something to do with it!

Elizabeth is beautiful! How does Rachel like being an older sister?:goodvibes

Rachel likes it at some times and doesn't at other times. Yesterday I brought baby into her room and she hid under the covers until my husband took baby out of the room. Then Rachel and I had some quiet time together reading books.

When she left, I just started bawling...this had been the longest (3 days) that I didn't really spend any time with her. I'm a SAHM so we are so used to being together.

I felt really sad that we won't have those days back again...I didn't think I'd feel that way and it hit me hard.

Then this morning while nursing Elie, I had Rachel "read" flashcards to her and she got dressed in Elie's room and we had a really good morning.

Guess we'll just take one day at a time ... and I know I need to make special time each day for Rachel, even though I'd rather sleep since I'm exhausted, but we'll work it out...it's new for all of us!

Count me in as another on who hates WalMart. I really don't like shopping there at all.

I don't think I am going to register anywhere. I don't want a shower. I have a thing about throwing a party for myself and making people by me something. With the economy the way it is, I wouldn't want someone to have to make a choice, by me something for the baby or pay a bill. My mom thinks I should register anyway that way if someone wants to get me something, they will at least have an idea where to look and what I want. Most of my family lives out of state so they would do their shopping on-line anyway. I don't know. What do you guys think.

I don't think my giagantic showers are really for me. They're for the relatives celebrating a new baby. Now I understand turning showers down after the first child, since it seems to be tacky to have more than one--even though I really don't see the logic in that.

I do like the suggestion of registering at BRU anyway. For those people that want to get you something you actually need and for that discount you can use later.

Registries are a bit tacky and a pain to use, but it's better than getting tons of the exact same stuff and things that don't fit your style.

I am still waiting...

been having contractions but nothing steady or too strong. (my midwife says I shouldn't be able to walk or talk through them).
I am still working so at least that is making the time go a little faster...
