I everyone new to camping and new to the world. We just got a motor coach and hope to break it in at fort wilderness. Are there any loops you can watch fireworks from site? Any advice or blog sites (besides here) that could direct us to the greatest Fort Wilderness experience?

Welcome! You will LOVE the Fort! It is a great place to break your camper in you can see the fireworks from the beach every night. We did see them from a couple of our sites in the 800 loop last time, we sat out on the picnic table and watched them. It was in the winter, so the trees were not as full, we backed up to the dog walk. Have a magical time!

The DIS is the place to be for camping at the Fort.

While you might be able to see small pieces of the fireworks from the sites, the beach is the best place to see it all.

Hello again! I wanted to ask how one got a AAA discount? Someone told me that is the only discount the Disney allows at the campsites. I am a member but have really never used the travel option and don't see the discount as an option on the AAA website or Disney's. Does the discount even exist? If it does how do I check and see if it applies to my stay? Thank you and sorry if this question has been asked before.

You will have to call the reservation line to inquire about your desired dates and desired type of site.

PS - it's not the ONLY discount available at the Fort but it's the most common (relatively speaking)

I agree with Bama Ed. Definitely call Disney when you make ressies to see if there is a AAA discount. We got one for our August trip and saved a lot! I was really surprised!

OK!! Still a fort newbie (but have gone out in motor home 2x to close places). How hard is it maneuvering at the fort at night? Is it frowned upon? We have 32' class c that while still new is getting easier for everyone to handle. Just don't want to break any etiquette or find ourselves in a night time (11pm) pickle. We are in Atlanta and wanted to get in right away. But I guess we could just go to walmart on 192?

Uh, no.

No boondocking permitted at Orlando area Wal-Marts.

All the lodging businesses (hotels, rv parks, campgrounds) want their revenue dollars.

All cities want their lodging taxes collected by said businesses.

Same rules apply. Don't expect to boondock on or near WDW property. You will likely get a knock on the door at 3am by Security telling you to get the heck out.

If you arrive after 6am on the morning of your arrival day, you MAY be allowed to park in the Fort lot if space is available. But you have to walk in and get a parking pass for the dashboard and permission may be denied based on availability.

Basically don't try to boondock anywhere around WDW. There are plenty of places to stay for one night (state parks, KOA, private campgrounds). Pay the fee and head over to the Fort early. We like to check in before lunch and if your pre-assigned campsite is not yet available (the person staying on it hasn't left yet), you have the option of waiting for that site or taking another at the same level that MAY be available.

If you have mechanical problems (as some of our DISsers have) and might miss your arrival window, call the Fort and they will hold a spot for you. But play the overnight plans on the up-and-up. Pay for the site you use that night. That's a common policy in heavy tourism areas.

PS - as far as coming in late at night, don't worry about it. Get your rig parked and don't make EXCESSIVE noise. The "thrum" of diesel busses at the Fort and people coming/go is a given part of a campground (having camped for 10 years in a popup with only thin canvas covering my head, I hear it all). But don't set up the outside tv at midnight with the DVD and play it loud for all to hear. That is a NO-NO.

I say check in go to your site and do only the have to haves until morning.
