Newbie-with ? on renting someones pts

We just recently purchased at SSR last February banked those points. First trip this February with brother, wife and four kids. We have rented a 2 bedroom now, a studio for april and a studio for November. My questions is this. If we go to the rent board-purchases someone elses points and have them transferred (which may be expiring)-can we use these points on the current reservations(prior to the expiration date of course) thus leaving us the ability to bank ours for our trips next year.

It depends, LOL!

If you reserved the rooms at SSR (your home resort) and the transferred points are also SSR home resort points, there shouldn't be a problem. MS can substitute the transferred points and free up your current year points. You can bank those "freed up" points subject to the banking windows.

If the transferred points are from a resort other than SSR (and still assuming you booked at SSR before the 7 month window opened), you may have a problem. MS can only substitute the transferred points if there is still availability for the same room type and dates as the original reservation. This is because only home resort points could have booked that original reservation. (What actually happens is the original reservartion is cancelled and a new one made for the same dates and room type). If MS would substitute in this situation, it would be a way to get around the home resort booking windows. It wouldn't be fair to other owners who may be on the waitlist for some or all of the dates of the original reservation.
