Hi all, I am organizing a campout for my Cub Scouts in April (about 53 people in total). I took on the task last minute when the original person in charge dropped out. My family is Disney connoisseurs but we have never done Fort wilderness other then to go to the HDDR dinner show once. So I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some free/cheap ideas that I can organize for the boys? We are staying at the Creek Side Manor site. So info on transportation around the gorunds woudl be good, too. Also, any little known info (I have a Passporter so I have the regular info) would be great. I want to keep it cheap for families.

Thanks everyone.

I was at the Fort yesterday and there was a Cub Scout Pack (they all wore identical t-shirts) playing a game of flag football in the field between the main pool and the canal. There is a bridge between the Creekside Meadow group camping area and the 900 loop which is directly across from the Meadow Trading Post and Pool area. It would be relatively easy to get everyone over there for some flag football.

Plus some pool time naturally.

Thanks. That sounds like a great idea. I always try and add in sport related time, so having a field nearby is wonderful.

I have read about fishing in the canals. Is that free? Does it cost to fish in the marina if you bring your own poles and bait?

There are free activities by the pool and sometimes at the beach. you will get a list at check-in.You can watch fireworks from the beach, check out the electric water pageant, walk through the barn and the campfire movie all free. There are basketball hoops also.

You can fish for free. Bring your and poles and bait, worms and hot dogs will do. You can fish the canals, but not by the marina, docks or beaches. It is catch and release only.

Good luck it sounds like a lot of fun. If you get a chance to take some pictures we'd love to see them and hear about the trip.

It's been a couple of years since I was over near Creekside Meadow, but I remember the area having fire pits (marshmellow roasting, smores, etc) and possibly a sand volleyball court (I don't remember a net). Arts and crafts are always cool for scouting. The pool at the Meadows is always neat and so is the free nightly movies (also near the Meadows), but bring your own marshmellows and sticks for the fire and sing-along (at the theater and before the movie starts). Of course, there is always wildlife watching, scavenger hunts, fishing. Boys generally have a talent for keeping themselves entertained. Maybe everyone could work toward a badge.

Wish I could have gone to the fort when I was a scout! Those kids are SOOOOOOOO lucky!

Edit: adding digital photography (children have interesting photographic perspectives). There is also the water pageant and fireworks that can be viewed from the beach.

Oh you gave me a great idea. I did a badge with my Girl Scouts (yes I'm a GS leader too....is it obvious I have issues saying NO, lol) where I gave them disposable cameras. I think this would be the perfect place and time to work on a photography badge and talk to them about perspective and light and story telling through pictures. :yay:

Y'all have been so wonderful. Thanks. (keep the info coming)

BTW, is there a good online interactive map or just a regular map of Fort Wilderness? I ahve the small one they give you at the gate but it really doesn't show you where everythign is in detail.
