with that said, did some research to calculate points needed for my trip 8 nights at animal kingdom villas during sept...am i on target with about 229 points?...what is the going rate for a point?

First of all the point rental only covers your lodging. You are not eligable for free dining with DVC but you can purchase the dinning plan. You just have to let the individual you are renting points from know so they can add it on for you. You will then pay for it at check in. the rates right now are $41.99/day for adults and I think the child is 31.99/day.The points owner will be the only one allowed to add to a reservation or even make the reservation. The DVC resorts are classified as Delux resorts which will exceed the POR accomadations. The going rate right now is apprx.$10/pt.You may find some a couple dollars more and some a couple dollars less. There is a rental Tread in the DVC section that will give you an idea of what the cost would be. As far as the number of points needed it is dependant uopn the room type which I did not see in your post. Hopefully this will help you. Donna

You don't actually rent reservations from DVC, you'd be renting from a member. That's an important distinction - you're dealing with a private individual, not Disney. Disney does not and will not get involved at all. So no packages, free dining, or anything like that. It's sort of like renting someone's house down at the shore.

As other posters have mentioned, you can purchase the dining plan. The member will need to add it to your reservation, and you'll pay for it at check-in. You'll make your own ADRs, and purchase your own tickets anywhere you'd like.

Another tip: As a DVC member, make sure you are renting points from an actual DVC member. Don't get scammed by some of the advertisements you see on Ebay or Craigslist. Make sure that the person is truly a DVC Member before you pay them for the points.
Ask the person you are renting the points from to make the reservation in your name. They will also need the names and ages of everyone in your party. Some rooms have limits on the number of people they will allow. When they make the reservation they can have the reservation confirmation mailed to your address. If someone would not comply with these simple requests I would not rent the points. Hope you have a great trip.

thanks so much for all the advice...i think this site would be a good place for me to start my research!..lol....i obviously have my work cut out for me and have just begun....but SOOO worth it for disney!

thanks again

You can do a cash reservation thru Disney which would allow you to include tickets and the DDP (dining plan) -- there are 3 different dining plans. If you do rent from a member, that will involve doing your tix on your own (you can save a little on those thru mousesavers.com), and you can have the points owner add which dining plan you want to the reservation --you pay for the DDP when you check in. The number of points you need will depend on what season you want to go, and what size unit you want (and what resort you want).
