Newbie with a question!

We purchased DVC last August, and are thinking of taking a vacation later this year to use our points.

Here is my question: Is it better to make the whole week reservations at once on the date we are scheduled to check out, or call day by day beginning with the day after the day we are wanting to check in.

I was just originally planning on making the whole week all at once on the day we are checking out, but I read here that some of you call day by day - and how would you go about doing that and stay in the same room?

I think people who want special things such as standard room or GV tend to book day by day. Most of us seem to book the entire trip in one go.

It is definitely critical to call day by day for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

Otherwise, when I booked our March Spring Break trip in November, I just called once for the whole week. However, I am interested to hear other opinions on this topic.

Thankgiving - yes, although someone say that OKW still had rooms available not too long ago - now the strange time that only DVC's like is the first two weeks of December - this time I would definitely try to get 1 day at a time - for VWL, BCV or BWV (if you want the standard view - try to call early - like when MS opens - these go fast).

Christmas - which the managers of DVC though would be a high demand time - never really happened - they use to tell people to put their names in a hat and 18 months before they would chose. but they haven't done this in a couple of years.

Easter is still very poular - alot of kids out of school and the weather is very nice.

If you are looking for a studio standard view, a grand villa, or a holiday period you need to call day by day to be safe.

I always book the whole thing at once. The 11 or 7 month window is based on your departure date, not your arrival date.

I do tend to go at not-so-busy times though, such as October/November or January, so maybe it's easier then to do it that way. I daresay that if you wanted to be there Easter week, you should probably consider doing a day-by-day booking.
