We have never been to WDW. We are staying off site and have a rental car. From the parking lots of WDW,or at the parks, can we use the WDW busses and monorail for free? We will have 5 day hoppers. I'm trying to get a clear picture of costs for everything. Thanks Veterns!!

From the Disney Website:

"With every Park Hopper® Ticket you get:
...
• Convenient Walt Disney World® transportation -- monorails, ferryboats, and motor coaches"

I think your ? is that once you have parked your car at one of the parks (MK, AK, etc) which you will have to pay for ($8 per day)since you are off-site (if you do not have an AP) then you get to ride the disney shuttles to the ticket center, from there you can ride the monorail or boat to the park entrance. You can also catch a ride on the monorail over to the Contemporary resort (CR) or just ride around the loop and look at the Polynesian or Grand Floridian. You might want to factor the cost of parking into your current hotel rate and maybe you can get a room at Disney's value resorts (AllStars) for about the same $$$. With an on-site hotel you get free park parking if you choose to drive over, continuous bus services to the parks, downtown disney, an exceptionally clean hotel room, plus it's disney! Disney's value season is about to start up so their hotel rates go down even more. You save even more with a AAA discount or an annual pass (AP) discount.
Another freebie at disney is to go to Fort Wilderness for their sing-along campfire program with Chip and Dale. You have to do this is you have kids! It starts at 7 or 8 at night and it is about a 40 minute sing along w/ characters then a free disney movie. Take along some marshmallows and sticks they have a campfire and you can roast to your hearts content!

decaff38, at Disney you're free to use the transportation to go from anywhere to anywhere. There's no ticket checking or paying money or anything like that. They just open the doors to the bus/monorail and let as many people on as want to get on. The buses all have pre-determined routes and will have a lighted sign on the front that lets you know where their destination is (ie Animal Kingdom, MGM Studios, Downtown Disney, etc)

Their are only two monorail tracks though. One goes only from the Ticket and Transportation Center around the lagoon and to the Magic Kingdom (with stops at the MK resorts). The other track only goes from the TTC to Epcot and back. Hope this helps.

I really appreciate all you tips and advice. I would love to stay on site but we are a family of five . 3 kids 15,17, and 25 hubby and myself. We need a space for 5 to sleep and strangly enough Disney doesn't offer much for older families over 4 people. It would need 2 rooms or a fancier hotel. We're content with being cramped in a room and sving the $$$. We've always done it that way and it is kind of fun. We will probably only be there to sleep or swim. Thanks again. Was hoping the transportaion was free. One less expense. Our parking wil be 40 or48 so, it isn't toomuch. Anyone know of discount parking passes you can buy ? Thanks again!!!
