I am looking into buying 50-60 points. 60 would be ideal. Since we would have no problem getting 4 days at a resort. We generally goto the world in Sept or first 2 weeks of dec, so its a slower time of year and we love the Wilderness Lodge, and we usually book 3-7 months out. I often see OKW rather cheaper on resale. Would I have a problem booking WL if I purchased OKW instead in such a short window?

THanks.

For VWL for December, YES. If you want December at VWL I'd say buy some points there (it's so pretty then - all decorated for the holidays and very popular during that time). For September, probably not. If you are only able to plan 3 to 7 months, why not buy SSR for the longer years? SSR expires in 2054 and most of the resales at OKW expire in 2042.

yeah, i agree with the prior poster: if you don't own VWL (or even if you do own VWL but can't plan till 5-7 months out), you shouldn't get your hopes up about staying there in dec...it's very unlikely as december is NOT a slow time for DVC owners.

i also agree that if you can't book more than 7 months out, you give up any home resort advantage and you may as well buy in at SSR or OKW...lower dues and relatively cheaper resale prices. (you may have to learn to love the waitlist...)

If you want to stay at Wl I would suggest buying there as it is the smallest DVC resort. You should keep an eye on www.dvc-resales.com that is the Timeshare Store. I only wanted a small DVC to start and was able to get 50 points at the resort I wanted by getting on their e-mail list of new resales - so if you want WL keep an eye out for it.

Thanks for your help guys. As for SSR I dont care about the extra 10 plus years at the resort. Who knows If I want to be involved with this that long and We are not really fans of that resort.

We usually can't book further times out because of work constraints.

Well, if you can't book more than 2-3 months ahead anyway, it wont matter WHICH resort is your home, because you aren't going to get VWL in December with that scenario. While early December is a slower time at WDW, it is the MOST POPULAR time with DVC owners. Add to that that VWL is the most popular December destination, and it will be difficult to get anything there at 7 months out, let alone 2-3.

If you can't book farther than 2-3 months out, you may have great difficulty getting ANYTHING in December. It definitely is the most popular DVC time and members fill the resorts quickly. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but I hate to see someone put down hard earned money and then be frustrated over a vacation.
