Newbie To Transferred Points

So I am certain somewhere in the threads this is answered but I don't know how to properly search apparently so I'll just ask it here by startomg a thread.

My friends would like to experience DVC and I own. I do not have enough points to cover 2 accomodations (we want to vacation together) but I feel like them renting would be more difficult thane getting points transferred and then booking the rooms with my points and the transferred points.

My question is 2 fold: 1) am I mistaken in this belief that it would be easier for me just to take care of it all in one fell swoop? 2) If the number of points I get transferred are not exact to the number used for the reservation could I use them interchangeably with those points in my own contract? That is to say if say it is 180 point reservation and I can get 150 transferred can I just use my extra 30 points left in my own contract to supplement or if it's a take all 200 points but I only need 180 can I use the extra 20 with my own points and then bank my own 20 leftover that I didn't need to use.

1) I think renting a reservation or transferring points is about equal, with the exception of having the security that you would be in control of the reservation.

2) Transferred points, ideally, would be the same use year as you have, as they retain their home resort and use year. If you want to book during your 11 month home resort window, you would absolutely need the points to have the same home resort.

3) Remember, members are allowed only one transfer per membership per use year, which can make it difficult to find the number of points you need, so you will likely wind up with more or less. Yes, the transferred points can be combined with your own points for a reservation. Remember that transferred points can be banked, so if you wind up with more than you need, you can bank then for one year, just like your own points. Which is why it's nice to have the same use year as well as use month.

Also, even though transferred points will show in your online account, you will have to call MS if you are making a reservation with them before the 7 month window opens ( system glitch). You can book online yourself using the transferred points after the 7 month window opens.

1. Holding
2. Banked
3. Borrowed
4. Transferred
5. Annual Allotment

Transferred points will definitely be taken before current UY points when all contracts are selected during booking.

They will take current UY over transferred if you select the transferred contract to be used last.

But, as long as you put it ahead of your own, then it picks up first.

Banked and borrowed are grabbed no matter the order.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm Poly June UY amdy friends fell in love with the Poly after touring the grounds following a Ohana breakfast. The good news is that it's unlikely 7 month availability would be gone if I couldn't get Poly points to transfer but I'd obviously prefer to get Poly points. I could just borrow what we need for the two rooms but that's a last resort as I'd like to not put myself in a bind the following year for my own vacation.
