Newbie to the world renting DVC points...HELP!

Hi all! I'm now realizing I'm way late in the game only 4 months out. Blah. All hope is not lost though! I'm trying to be flexible with our dates. Last 2 weeks in July.
My question for you... Do you know if all the DVC brokers are looking at the same points? Meaning will David's have different options than DVC Rental Store? Does that make sense?

Davids & the others deal with different folks usually but sometimes the same. It's not so much the points but it's more about DVC having availability. There are owners who are always open to renting but the problem is if the resorts are booked solid; they can't help.

What dates/resorts/room types are you looking for?

All dvc points are equal at 7 months. Any points they have available will be valid for a July stay. They're all looking at the same availability.

Hi! Thank you for the quick reply! In a perfect world we would like the last week in July for 4 nights (25-29). We would love Bay Lake Tower, Polynesian, Beach Club or GF. We are flexible for any 4 consecutive nights the last 2 weeks in July. I am waiting to hear back from David's. DVC Rental Store and DVC-Rental.com have been great. They have replied really fast but without much luck. They did find availability at AK, Old Key West and Saratoga Springs. We loved AK when we stayed before but it is so far away from everything. (I feel ridiculous complaining about that in Disney! LOL).
I am also eyeing Port Orleans Riverside through Disney if I can't find any DVC points. We have never stayed in a moderate. Will it be a huge difference from what we are used to? Our children are both 12 years old and we spend most of our time at the parks. Any advise would be appreciated! Thank you!

It looks like BLT only has partial for deluxe studio/lake view for 7/26, 7/27 and 7/29. So you could look at doing a split stay which allow you to spread across 2 of the parks you'd want.

Poly is available 7/28 and 7/29 for deluxe studio/lake view.

So that's probably why they're not having luck finding you one resort. If you get creative you can try to piece together 2 nights at 1 resort & split with another

OK, I'm checking resort availability tool and there is only partial availability at BLT, BCV, Polynesian (unless you want the bungalow at a LOT of points), etc.

The one day that looks tough is 7/28. You'd have to do a split stay for it to work.

Wow! Thank you so much JWigs and Starry_solo!!! What is your opinion of staying at AK with DVC points or trying POR (moderate) through Disney with the hope of late summer discount?

I think you should go with the one you're most comfortable with. I have never stayed at AK (for some reasons as you've listed of being so far out) but I have also heard that can be nice.

AK is great to stay at with DVC points. It depends on what park you want to visit. I've been at AKV (Kidani), BCV, and BLT and moved to different resorts depending on where I was planning to spend most of my time at.

AKV for AK and one of the water parks.
BCV for EPCOT, HS, and the other water park.
BLT for MK.

I did notice availability at Boardwalk Villas for the entire time (no split stay required) for a 1 bedroom villa, so that's 148 points.

Kidani is available for a studio, as is Saratoga Springs. But with 2 adults and 2 teenagers, you might want a one bedroom? It depends on how big the kids are and will they be comfy on a sofa bed.

For VGF, you could do a one bedroom lake for the 25th and 26th (55 points each night) and then a one-bedroom standard for the 27th and 28th (46 points each night).

If you want to be close to MK, have you looked at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge? That's a boat ride away to MK.

So does that fall under the agreement that we accept or lose $100 deposit? They are also closed now and cannot communicate with me. DVC-Rental has the same offer and sent me the link to pay. EEK!

No idea. Pretty sure DVC-Rental is also closed for the day.

There is availability in two categories of rooms at the Polynesian for these days (studios for both, different views) but I'm not sure what type of room you are looking at.

I have always found a nice online person to rent points from for 10 a point. HAving said that I normally book at YC/BC and then tag on a few nights with a DVC point rental stay to try a new resort. Have stayed at pretty much all of them. I know some feel it is a roll of the dice renting points from someone you have never met but if you ask around or look at various posting boards you might have some luck. Therefore saving yourself money.....
