OMG! :yay: I am soooo excited to find this part of the DIS Board. How I missed it for these few months, I'll never know. This combines my two of my loves, wdw and my camera. I just received as a christmas present the Sony DSC-H7 and I'm having a little trouble figuring the best settings. Does anyone else have this camera that can help me. Also I received photoshop elements 6. Sooo lost, so I picked up the book Photoshop for Dummies, haven't had the chance to check the book out. It was between that one and the book for Photoshop, any suggestions?

Get the book by Scott Kelby for Photoshop. You can't go wrong.

As for the best settings, that is entirely dependent on what your shooting at the time.

i have the photoshop elements 5( since i have pse5) missing manual by barbara brundage and i really like it and use it all the time..it has everything you need as a beginner plus all kinds of stuff for more advanced work...
sorry i know nothing about your camera but i think someone on here has one so maybe they can help you
and welcome to the board!

I'm mainly looking to get sharp action shots at baseball games and then when I go to wdw I was looking on getting some ones sharp focus in front and then out of focus in the background. I'm used to doing all this with my manual, but learning again with this digital is like going back to first grade.

for the ones at WDW your going to want to shoot in as wide an apeture as you can get, even then, it will probably not be as good as your used to because of the small sensor size.

for the baseball ones, you need to make sure your speed stays at least above 1/125, preferably faster so you can freeze the action. this means opening the apeture and raising the ISO to keep the shutter speed up.

Hi and Welcome!:welcome:

re: books for PE6...I just got PE6 and have been scouring reviews and peeking into bookstores at the offerings. The Missing Manual gets great reviews both here and at book sites. However, when I perused it at the bookstore, the look and feel just didn't appeal to me (personal preference, that's all).

I got some older issues of PE books from the library, and the most clearly written (for my tastes) is indeed the Scott Kelby one. So I am waiting:hourglass ...and waiting...:snail:for his PE6 book to be released next month!:thumbsup2

btw, there are tons of great PE tutuorials on the web, and I've also been perusing this Elements forum

Have fun!:cool1:

Thanks, DUh, I actually forgot to look online. Guess I had a "blonde" moment.

No way! The DisBoards are a great first step! Excellent advice here always!:goodvibes

Even with all the tips, advice, tutorials on the web, I like having a book at my fingertips, to either go to exactly what I need at the moment, or else to browse through at my leisure to learn all the PE basics, etc. :thumbsup2

here's a description of the forthcoming Kelby book for PE6 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0321524640/ref=ord_cart_shr?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance
