Would someone be willing to host a newbie swap with maybe a general Magic Kingdom theme or Fab Five theme? I'm reading the boards and the stickies and threads and I'm totally overwhelmed! (Needless to say....this would also require someone answering questions that have answers obvious to all but me!) I'm so excited that I've found this board but after two days of reading...I'm still as confused as when I started. I've been scrapping for about two years and since I can't see a trip to WDW any time in my future (we were there in Sept.), this has to fill the void. Anyone up for the challenge? :flower3:

we have an Epcot swap coming up in April, I can talk to the hostess about having a newbie group. We just finished an MK swap but I can ask around to see if anyone wants to do a newbie one.

Ask questions!! We love questions! If there is anything you don't understand then ask away. It's a lot of information to absorb all at once.

The gallery has pics of past swaps so you can get a visual of what pieces look like and put a name to a face so to speak.
the swap glossary give you general descriptions of the elements.
The 2008/2009 calendar is a list of swaps, who is hosting and when sign ups and due dates are.

let me know what specific questions you have and we'll go from there!

And welcome aboard!!!

I'dhost a newbie swap....Sometimes I still feel like a newbie and I'm online pretty much all day so I could be avalible for questions and concerns.

Count me in if you decide to host a swap. Not exactly sure what I'm getting myself into. I'm looking at the swaps and there are groups of people each in their own little groupings (I know, I'm not being very clear about this). Are these all separate groups doing the same thing, and what do the letters out from their names stand for? Example: There might be...
Mickey A1
name here A, H, J, P
name here B, O, L, C

What does this mean?

If there is enought interest I will add a General DIsney group to the Epcot swap. The Epcot swap will be elements, so that it is not over whelming to a newbie.
That way you can get one in sooner.
S :)

Sounds great. What, exactly, are considered elements? AND, once a swap has been listed how do I sign up? I work for a court so we have absolutely no access to the internet during the day. Are these usually open long enough to access in the evening? From what I've read, some of these go really fast.

If you go to the sign-up link in the swaps that are now closed for sign-ups you will see the swappers name in those listed groups.
like Example:
Group B: Main Street
1. Main Street USA-Arizona_Rita
2 Main Street Vehicles-Disney_Rider
3 Etc
4 Etc
And when the sign-ups for the swaps close they list who is in the swap and the groups they have signed up for are next to theyre user names.
I hope that makes sence.

You got it! I have PM the swap goddess to see if we can add a general disney group to the Epcot swap. If so, sign ups will be in a couple of short weeks.

this is the best link for the explanation of the elements.
You just look at the swap calender and see when sign-up's for that swap are then reply to the thread with your group requests...they stay open for a couple of days and I've seen some stay open for about a week.

If you won't be available during sign up time you can ask someone to be your sign up buddy and send them your choices. If I am around during signups I'd be happy to do it for you!

Ask all the questions you like - some of us have been doing this for a long time and ask questions all the time :)

Wow, I wish I'd found you all a long time ago! Sure is a lot more fun than scrappin all by myself.

Welcome!!!

Here is a link to the MK swap that we just completed. In the first post, there are slideshows of the work that we made. If you have any questions about these elements, I'd be happy to help too.

As for sign ups --

Here is what I will do when Mickeyteacher posts the sign up thread for Epcot (it is usually a new thread and has SIGN UP right in the title)

My post will look like this (except that I haven't actually given any thought at all to what spots I'd like):

Group 1 -- Mexico, England, France or any open spot please

Group 2 -- Living Seas

Personally, I like to give more than one option. Groups are filled in the order the requests are received, and sign ups can get hectic. If someone already picked my 1st choice, the hostess can put me in one of my other choices. If I only give one choice and it is filled, she'll have no choice but to keep filling in the groups until I post another choice.

I talked to Mickeyteacher and we are all set to add newbies in. So feel free to ask questions, find a buddy to help you post, and to walk you through the swapping process.

Multiple choices are good, everyone gets picked first come first serve.
so say 123SA and I both ask for Germany. If she posted first then 123SA gets first dibs.

So you could say Group 1, Germany, Mexico, or France. In what ever ranking you want. So if Germany is taken Mexico would be your next choice.

I will stress that most hostesses ask that newbies only sign up for 1 or 2 groups so they don't feel overwhelmed. The Disney element swaps are a great way to get your feet wet!

Thanks. I will only sign up for one or two groups and for just the two I requested. Think that maybe they're easy enough that I can come up with something worthwhile for all. Am always very critical of my work. Thanks for all of your help. Will probably need help with signups as this is all new and [I don't want to miss out.

Before I got really into swapping I spent alot of time looking at the Gallery.
It has some newbie swaps and everything else. If you go to the general page it should be towards the top.
I know its all overwhelming at first but keep reading and it really will start to make sense.
These ladies here are all a super bunch! They will help you with anything!
If you enjoy scrapping then you will enjoy this!
and:welcome:
