Newbie Questions: double mat

I love those.

Thanks for sharing.

susie here is an example of my library pocket and tag. Not exactly following the guidelines either but it still looks cool.

and 2 tags, not really embellished all that much but that ride was a bit limiting. The glider on the white tag is 2 layers to pop it up.

I checked in with Mickster and she too just winged it.
So B&MB if you can come with some verbage to describe the process of making a license plate, I would ever be so grateful.

Mine were three layers with the top layer being the letters/numbers of the plate. My Buzz had individual letters, but my Dog one was computer generated. One was 4 inches long, but the other was only 3. I've used die cuts & brads depending on the theme as embellishments. One I punched the holes in all four corners and another just on top. Some get rounded corners, but the Buzz stayed squared.

So I'm no help in figuring out a basic model.

after I cut the grass I'll take a peek at my license plate and have DH help me with a description.

When I made the Yeti License Plate for the AK swap a few months ago I had three layers. The outside layer- then a middle layer. I diecut the letters out of the third layer so the second layer showed through the first. I then embellished mine with fiber and brads. I used the letter YETI since I was doing everest.

Why do you think I asked AWM to write a description for the swap glossary? I've never made one, only received a handful and from looking at the examples online I couldn't imagine how to describe it. At the very least I'll link a couple pictures to the glossary and say this: The collective brainpower that is the Creative Community could not come up with a coherent way to describe these items. Look at these pictures and go from there." ;)

;) That is about all I could come up with myself.

Limiting the size would be against my creative spirit.
It looks best with the three layers, but I've seen some nice two layers one also.
Saying it has to have holes? I've seen a few on-line that used brads like screws instead and they looked great.
How to embellish? I've seen ribbon, fiber, die cuts, brads, stickers and it all looks good when done right with the theme.

So other than it has to be multi layered, letters, and embellished, I don't know how to describe it.

Any chance anyone has a picture of Mickster's Snow White license plate? The photo from that swap is off all the elements together - too hard to see each item individually. I have Cruella, AWM's dog and rlovew's Yeti - any other examples floating around?

I have my license plate. :) Once the small ones are out of the bath and in bed (not soon enough, if you ask me), I'll scan and post a picture.

I, to be totally honest, don't remember how I made mine. It is 2 inches by 3 inches (not too be or too small). I think it is double matted, but I haven't looked at it in a while. I made 3 small hole punches next to each other for the spots where it would get attached to the car. That's it. I am a visual learner, so looking at pictures is way more helpful.

Here you go. Mickster SW, Maria's France, and my Buzz

Look at that. It is 3 pieces of paper! I totally forgot what it looked like. :rolleyes1

When I do mats or tags or whatever needs more than one piece of paper, I always make the math work out easily. - 8 x 2 topper becomes 1 8 x 2 piece, 1 7.5 x 1.5 piece and 1 7 x 1 piece. It gives a nice 1/4 reveal all the way around and is easy to cut. Same thing for mats but one of the layers ends up smaller - for visual interest... 1 5 x 7, 1 4.5 x 6.5 and 1 4.25 x 6.45. That leaves 1/8 around the photo. I almost always use 3 pieces of paper I like design of odd numbers. I don't know why. Maybe because I'm odd...

I think a small word punch would work. I think I got mine from Stampin Up a few years ago. I don't know if they still have them. I haven't seen a catalog since then.

Thanks! And now I have a question - what do you use to make the oval holes? I can't quite figure that out.
