Hi.

My first question is....once school starts, in September, are there still a lot of children at FW? Or is it mostly a quieter, adult crowd then?

Second, what kind of security is there at the Fort? A friend of mine once had a tent stolen while they were away for the day and I've always worried about that. I only plan on being in camp at night.

And third, what is the ratio of RVs to tents at the Fort? I'm told that, with the rising cost of gas, tent sales are going up and up, so I am not at all ashamed of my choice to 'rough' it. But I don't want to be the only 'poor' person on the block, either. :)

First, welcome to the Camping Board. it's absolutely the best place to get information about the Fort.

Even with school in session there are always some kids there, but not as many as in the summer. You'd be surprised how many people take their kids out of school for WDW. Remember how many people home school now and that they have a much more lenient "schedule" and can work around things for a trip.
As far as being quiet, I always find the fort relaxing and usually pretty quiet in the evenings.

For security I rarely hear about any problems at the Fort. The times someone has something stolen are very far and few apart. Just be wise and don't leave things obviously lying around to tempt someone.

On the ratio of tents to RV's it depends on what loops you are in. In the partial hookup loops there are a large number of tents. In the other loops there are more RV's but you still find tents mixed in everywhere.

You can also get a free of charge security deposit box at the registration office and keep your money or value items while you're gone.

We have never had a security problem but as said i would put things out of site out of mind we always lock our TT just to not invite problems if you have something valueable lock it in your car/truck this helps prevent a great trip from becoming the trip from hell i have seen people leave alkinds of things sitting out on tables and no sign of anyone around i just hope that the caliber of people in disney stays like it is whether you tent or have a huge motorhome all the people i've meet in FW have always been great so don't worry about what you camp next to but practice common sense and don't leave things sitting out in open that could invite problems

We didn't have any problems on our last trip but we follow the motto ,'outta sight outta mind'.

Hope we have the same luck on our upcoming trip!

There are children everywhere regardless when you go , we went in September a few years back and I was shocked at the amount of teens and small children that were there.

I guess in the world we now live in you have to look out for thiefs everywhere but lets just say I would be floored if someone got their tent stolen at FW, their security seems to be top notch, I even left my laptop by mistake on the picnic table one day and we were at the MK all day and whenever I got back there it was :rolleyes1 .

Even though I camp in a tt, I seen lots and lots of tents, trust me when I say tent camping is no longer because folks can't afford anything else, at one time maybe ya but not now, wait until you see some of the set ups, some will put us to shame.... you will see all kinds of everything, whenever we first went my dh was embarrassed because whenever we were in the checkin line we went sandwiched inbetween two provosts on evey side ands there we sat...heehee....no fear you will see alot of evrything:laughing:

WOW! that does sound like good security.

Well, I travel to Florida about one week out of each month on business, and recently purchased a Premium Annual Pass to WDW. I'm going to start bringing my tent along and spend the weekends down there some. - I recently turned 50 and must be going through a mid-life episode or something.

Anyway, I'm really glad I found this forum. You all sound so nice.
I wish I could be down there on the 4th to see the golf cart parade. Is the 4th of July the only time you do that?

We haven't had any security issues (knock on wood) and we do as others do...lock up the suburban and our TT, shut the screen room door and close the grill and stuff so as to not invite trouble. We do at times leave our chairs, clothes on the line, etc. sitting out and haven't had anything come up missing. That's one thing I love about using the camper-no one comes in it to clean, we have the only keys.
Regarding your other question...I've seen kids at the parks throughout the year. I'm sure there are well publicized times of the year when things are less crowded.
Hope that helps.

We've been back a week. Spent 9 days at the fort, tent camping.
Had no problems what so ever. We did however lock up the laptop and valuables in the truck during the day.
