Hi,

We are brand new to DVC and I've been reading everything I can find, but I keep coming accross questions I can't find the answers too.

First, I'm not sure I can go four days without housekeeping. How much does it cost to have it more often? And where can I find that info so I know when and if it goes up?

Second, is there a legal way to have five people in a one bedroom? All the literature says that a one bedroom holds four, but during our tour the DVC guy said something about it could hold five? Just want to know all the rules.

I'm sure I'll have more, but that's it for now.

Thank in advance for your help.

Don't assume you can't get by without housekeeping. We never miss it and in fact, like not having to worry about housekeeping coming in. It's no biggie to make the bed (we do that at home), and there are extra trash bags in the bottom of each container. The trash room is usually on your way out, so also not an issue. They count the check-in day as day 1, so it seems like 3 days before trash and towel day. If you treat it like your home, you wont miss the daily housekeeping.

MS will allow you to book 5 in a 1 bedroom, but there will NOT be towels or bedding for the extra person. If you are in a 1 bedroom, you will have an in-room laundry, so washing towels is not much of an issue. We usually pack light and do one load of wash each day, so towels can always be thrown in with the clothes.

BTW, if you stay in a 1 bedroom at OKW, the love seat makes a nice bed for a smaller person, if they are the 5th one. Also, the laundry room at OKW is large enough for an airbed. I only say this because MS will allow you to put 5 in a 1 bedroom, but I wouldn't think a long trip would be very comfortable that way. We purchased DVC to have longer more relaxing vacations guaranteed every year, since WDW was our destination of choice. Always trying to cram too many people into a smaller space would not be my choice, since in a 1 bedroom, you still only have one bathroom. We have been known to get a 2 bedroom for 3 people.

Thanks Diane, for the information.

I see your point about housekeeping, but I'm still not sure about whether I'll be able to do without it. We have a housekeeping that comes in at home three days a week, so we are use to it. Do you know how much it costs?

Good to know about the 5th person. When we toured the model the one bedroom seemed pretty big, but you might be right. We may want a two bedroom. The people would be two adults, two teen boys and a 6 year old girl. I though the girl (my niece) could sleep on an air matress, or even with us, shes small.

I guess we'll just have to try some things on a few trips to see what we are comfortable with.

remember with a 1-bedroom there is only 1 bathroom. that is alot of people to be sharing 1-bathroom.

I might go with 2 studios (at least you get 2 bathrooms) for the same point price as a 1-bedroom. - they will probably be in the same building at OKW - but not necessary the same floor.

With two teens, I would DEFINITELY get the two bedroom. That extra bathroom is essential at that point.

Daily housekeeping is quite expensive. We had our first DVC stay this year and it was really nice knowing I wouldn't have people in and out of my room everyday. I could leave my laptop out on my desk and not have to worry about it.

I just had the kids make their bed back into a couch before we left and we made sure the dishes were in the dishwasher and made our bed. I think I had to run the vac once because they got crumbs on the floor from cookies and chips. It wasn't bad at all.

Here are the current rates
Studio $25 per day requested
1 bdrm $30 per day requested
2 bdrm $40 per day requested
Grand Villa $60 per day requested
Trash and Towel $10 per day requested

Daily housekeeping is charged by the size unit you have. It's $25 a day for a studio, $30 a day for a 1 bedroom and $40 a day for a 2 bedroom. Trash and towel service is $10 a day, but they wont make your beds or do dishes.

Thanks for the information. I do appreciate it. Housekeeping is expensive, but might be worth it a couple of times during a long trip.

I hadn't thought about the bathroom issue. I don't usually travel with more people than my husband, myself, and our young niece. We have too older nephews who we are thinking of asking along as well. I have no expirience with having that many people in a small area. Thanks for the advice

We have stayed in one, two and three bedroom villas. Typically we can keep up with the cleaning but on a couple of trips it gets a bit rough since we have teens.

I was charged $25.00 for a full cleaning and it was well worth it. The DVC website lists costs for cleaning services for each resort and the front desk can help too.
