I'm sure this has been asked and I apologize, but would it make sense to purchase points at Hilton Head, which is cheaper on resale, and then book at Disney?

If you own at HH, you can book on site WDW resorts at 7 months out. There will be times when you book, that you will be limited in the resorts that are available. At 7 months out at other times, you will have your choice of all of the on site resorts. When do you plan to go to WDW; where would you want to stay; what type of accomodations?

People here say "buy where you want to stay."

Resales at OKW are the most reasonable on site and buying there guarantees you an on site advantage at 11 months. It has attractive annual dues rate.

The sales incentive at SSR with the extra years makes that more attractive than it was just a month ago, and lots of people seem to be buying there straight from Disney with no closing costs and financing available.

Also, if you buy HH you will have the advantage of booking there during the summer months. I understand that it's very hard to get something there then if you don't own there.

Your scenario is ideal in a couple of different scenarios:

1. You can't book 7 months in advance
2. You don't travel during peak DVC times.
3. You don't have a specific DVC you want to stay at all the time.
4. You can be flexible on the size accommodations and/or view preferences.

At 7 months all points are essentially the same, so if you can't make plans that far in advance, then owning at a specific resort isn't necessary. Also, if you want to stay at some of the smaller and/or more "popular" DVC's (BWV, BCV, or VWL), having that 11 month window is pretty important.

Honestly, I don't think you'd have much problem if you don't mind staying over at SSR or OKW (if your other choices weren't available). However, just realize that at 7 months there is no guarantee that you will get where you want, when you want, and in the size accommdations you want.

Also, when you are calculating in your "savings' thru resale, make sure and factor in the closing costs and any MN fees you might have to reimburse to the seller. Also consider the time it will take to get a resale contract. If you don't want to get the minimum of 150 points, then you'll have to purchase via resale.

If you weren't aware, there is a great promo going on with SSR right now. It makes it about $83.30 per point with no closing costs and easier financing options (if needed). To get the promo price you just need to be referred by a DVC member. I'd be glad to give you my info for referral if you decide to go that route. I'm sure most any DVC member on the boards would also be willing to give a referral.

Keep us posted on your DVC pursuit and let us know if you have any other questions!

Generally, if you are not particular about the WDW resort and you book as soon as the 7 month window opens, you will be able to get on site DVC accomodations.

Most times, you will not be able to get an OKW Grand Villa (3 bedroom) or a standard view at BWV or a guaranteed Boardwalk view at BWV.

It will be difficult (not impossible) to get VWL anytime in December, BWV & BCV during October, November or December (Food & Wine Festival & Holiday activities). Because of SAB (feature pool), BCV may also be difficult to get during spring break and summer.

SSR will be (by far) the largest on site DVC. It will be the easiest WDW DVC to book at 7 months. It is very possible that you will have to use the waitlist for some or all of your days at the other on site WDW DVC resorts.

Bottom Line: You should be able to get on site DVC accomodations at 7 months if you are flexible in your choice of resort.

Best wishes -

We purchased HH for the 11 month booking window. I knew we would want to travel there during the more difficult times to get and I'm glad we did that. However, now I would really like to have that 11 months at a WDW property also. So beware, a purchase at HH could lead to an add on in the future. ;)

Good luck in making your decision.
