Hi all,

We are finally looking at a DVC resale after 15 years of WDW travel. :lmao: :cool1:

Anyways, DH is interested in the ability to use it other places as well as for WDW/DL.

Can anyone tell me your experiences with trading your points for RCI (or the former trading timeshare) for travel to Non-Disney destinations?

We have to sign our contract by the end of the week.

TIA!

Ok, first the standard answer. DVC is best used at Disney properties.

That being said, we trade out all the time using the concierge collection and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. :lovestruc so far we've done Washington DC, NYC, London & Chicago using the points. The hotels have been true 4 star hotels and have had lovely trips. We've got a trip on destination Disney on points coming up and planning on trying the Sagemore in Upstate NY on points.

We will probably continue using our points at other places.

Thanx!

Anyone else? I know the most popular thing would be to use all the points at WDW. We were kind of hoping to do one week at WDW and one week elsewhere on our points.

it's generally going to be a lot cheaper to buy 1 weeks worth of points through DVC and then buy another timeshare (cheaper upfront and cheaper annual dues) as a trader.

Yes, Eileen, I can give some input, but it might not be exactly what you are looking for. RCI trades, while possible are not always the best use of points. My suggestion is to buy teh minimum number of points you feel you would use either annually or semi annually, and then use it only for Disney travel, or an occational trade out. Trades are not always so easy to procure, and RCI is new in the Disney system right now. So far, there isn't enough experience with trades to see how well it actually works, or if it is better than the former trading company.

DVC dues are among some of the highest in the timeshare industry. For that reason, you are best off using them for Disney, or at least something of equal value. DVC doesn't trade with ALL RCI resorts, only a few select ones, and that means you might not find trades in the places you might like to go.

So far, in 12 years of membership, we have only traded out once, and that was to go to Hawaii. We combined it with another timeshare and a few nights in a hotel so we could get a 3 week trip out of it. Was it worth the trade? Absolutely! Would I do it on a regular basis? Absolutely NOT. It takes a long time to fret about whether or not your trade is going to happen, and in the meantime, you aren't sure if you should purchase airline tickets or what. Working the trading system is difficult through DVC with the limited options.
