Newbie Question - Resort v. Good Neighbor Hotels

Hi everyone! I am so happy I found this forum!!

I am planning a family trip to Disneyland for my son's 3rd birthday in October. We are going for four days / three nights and want to do Mickey's Halloween Party and all the fun stuff at DL and CA.

For the more experienced people - are the resort hotels (DH or PPH) worth the extra money as opposed to a Good Neighbor Hotel that is across the street?

We will probably going back to the hotel for naps and don't want a long walk - and like all the special stuff that comes with a resort hotel.....

But I just keep going back and forth..... are the amenities and location of a resort hotel worth $500-$600?

What worth it to you is really up to you.

But if your reason is based on closeness of location then probably not. Most Grand California Hotel Rooms are closest. The rest are further than a few hotels on Harbor. Most of the block of Harbor across from the parks is closer than the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel.

But all the Disney hotels are nicer than the places on Harbor.

I think the pro of not having to cross a large busy road with young ones in tow is a huge plus. And it's a MUCH nicer walk. You can also take the monorail right to tomorrowland (or from tomorrowland) if you don't want to walk.

I do think the perk of doing MM every day that it's offered of your stay is a huge plus. Also the direct entrance into DCA. And just all the disney magic (at least at DLH) is huge for me!
